    Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager - Structural Steel Construction

    Location: Phoenix, AZ
    Salary: $88,000-$110,000 annually DOE

    70% Field 30% Office

    We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to join our growing structural steel construction team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the field while gaining valuable project management experience. You'll spend approximately 70% of your time on active job sites throughout the Phoenix area and 30% in the office supporting project planning, documentation, and coordination.

    This position plays a key role in supporting high-tech and industrial construction projects by connecting field operations with project management, quality control, scheduling, and reporting. It offers a clear career path into Project Management.

    Key ResponsibilitiesField Operations (70%)

    Perform field audits to verify installations meet project drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
    Conduct QA/QC inspections to ensure work meets company and client standards.
    Document project progress with photos and detailed field reports.
    Identify and communicate field issues requiring corrective action.
    Coordinate daily activities with superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and project managers.
    Monitor project progress and help maintain schedule commitments.
    Assist with layout verification, field measurements, and installation tracking.

    Project Management & Office Support (30%)

    Support Project Managers with daily project execution and coordination.
    Assist in managing project scopes, schedules, RFIs, submittals, and documentation.
    Prepare and maintain:
    Daily reports
    Delivery logs
    Progress tracking
    Field documentation
    Professional client communications
    Review reporting for accuracy across field, QA/QC, and project management teams.
    Identify documentation discrepancies and proactively resolve issues.
    Maintain organized, audit-ready project records.

    QualificationsRequired

    Construction field experience preferred.
    Strong organizational and documentation skills.
    Excellent written and verbal communication.
    Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
    Strong attention to detail.
    Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    Willingness to spend the majority of the workweek in the field.

    Preferred Software Experience

    Microsoft Excel
    Microsoft Outlook
    Smartsheet
    Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
    Procore

    Construction Knowledge

    Blueprint reading
    Construction layouts and measurements
    Construction sequencing
    Construction safety practices
    Structural steel construction experience is strongly preferred
