    Job DescriptionJob Description

    The Trauma-Informed Specialist works closely with school and district staff, students, families and outside agencies to promote an environment that mitigates the impacts of adversity and toxic stress and supports wellness and school success.
    Performs work involving organizational or individual trauma assessments; on-site training, consultation, and technical support for school staff, students and families; develops appropriate support and intervention plans; assists with collaborative
    referrals; provides support for students with a history of trauma and school-related issues; monitors the course of supports; and seeks grants and other program development opportunities to support school-based trauma-informed efforts. The
    primary focus of this position is centered on serving drug-endangered children and educating faculty and staff on how to best serve drug-endangered children who have experienced or are experiencing traumatic events.


    Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: Below includes a list of essential duties/tasks performed by this position. This is not an exhaustive list and this position may be assigned additional duties by management as required.


    1. Conducts formal and informal assessments of school-wide, student, and family needs using structured interview and assessment procedures.

    2. Compiles and analyzes data and recommends actions based on results.

    3. Works collaboratively with school and district staff and related programs to impact school-wide systems, policies and practices to become more trauma-informed.


    4. Assists with development of individualized or group support plans in collaboration with teacher teams and other key stakeholders.

    5. Provides, supports, and monitors implementation of individual and group plans as needed, including trauma-informed crisis interventions.

    6. Participates in team meetings to review data, monitor progress, and assist with collaborative referral processes in collaboration with related staff to ensure the highest quality of specialized support is provided for students and families.

    7. Provides individualized consultation, coaching and technical support to school staff who support students with trauma-related symptoms.

    8. Works in collaboration with other specialized providers to provide trauma-informed interventions for groups of students, families, or school staff as needed.

    9. Provides professional development to school staff and related stakeholders about the impacts of ACES and trauma-informed school culture and practices.

    10. Apply for and manage grants to develop, implement, and sustain trauma-informed systems, policies, and practices.

    11. Cultivates strong working relationships with community navigators throughout the county to foster a collaborative approach to helping people overcome the challenges of addiction.

    12. Provides tobacco education classes to elementary, middle, and high school students on a consistent schedule.

    13. Provides follow-up conversations/check ins with RCS students that reach Tier II or above according to RCS tobacco policy/procedures.

    Education Required: Master's Degree in General or Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or related field.

    Experience Required: Minimum of three years related experience.


    Skills Required: Exceptional interpersonal skills; Advanced written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency in coaching or consulting; Effective leadership skills

    Knowledge Required: Excellent knowledge of common educational and behavioral health diagnoses related to trauma and evidence-based interventions for related needs.

    • Develop and lead professional learning opportunities for staff and parents.

    Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Related licensure is preferred (e.g., Professional or School Social Worker, Professional or School Counselor, Teacher, Marriage and Family Therapist). Teaching experience, micro-credential certifications and
    training in the areas of trauma-informed care, mindfulness, or mental health counseling are preferred.
