    JOB SUMMARY:

    CERTERRA is a consulting firm providing quality service and offers professional services in the southwestern United States in the fields of geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering and construction materials engineering and testing. We have a full-time opportunity for an experienced Construction Materials Project Manager.     MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Minimum of 5 years of experience managing construction materials projects or related roles.Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications, required. Experience performing ICC Special Investigations.Strong knowledge of construction materials testing methods, standards, and regulatory requirements.Small to large, complex construction and/or heavy highway projects experience. Proven experience with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and OneDrive is required. Excellent communication and organizational skills.A valid drivers license with a clean driving history is required.High school diploma, or equivalent, is required.
    CERTIFICATIONS:
    ACI Concrete Field-Testing TechnicianICCNICET (Level II is preferred)EIT or PE is a plus
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Work with project designers and clients to ensure that client specifications are followed.Perform routine to complex inspections and testing of construction materials in the field. Review daily reports on observation activities and test data for accuracy and completeness. Track project budgets and prepare invoices. Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality materials that meet project specifications and regulatory requirements.Prepare proposals and deliver to client. Manage schedules, budgets, and resources related to material acquisition and testing activities.Oversee quality control processes, including laboratory testing and field inspections, to ensure material compliance.Collaborate with engineering teams and contractors to address material-related challenges and optimize project outcomes.Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and industry standards throughout the material management lifecycle.Lead and mentor project team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Technical expertise in materials science and testing standards is essential for evaluating material quality and compliance, enabling informed decision-making and problem resolution. Effective communication skills facilitate collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including suppliers, engineers, and regulatory bodies, to align project goals and expectations. Analytical skills are applied to interpret test results and data, driving continuous improvement and innovation in material selection and usage. Leadership and organizational skills are critical for managing multidisciplinary teams, maintaining documentation accuracy, and delivering projects that meet stringent quality and safety standards.

    Position Overview

    Centerra's Southern Engineering is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team based in Charlotte, NC. The Project Manager will be responsible for the management of projects receiving testing and inspection services. The ideal candidate will have an advanced understanding of structural systems and applicable inspection procedures, have strong interpersonal skills, and an advanced understanding of general construction practices.

    Key Responsibilities
    Manage project schedules, milestones, budgets, and quality of work.Act as primary point of contact for client for assigned projects, perform ongoing client management and maintenance, including any conflict resolution.Manage daily field testing and inspection activities performed by staff.Review of daily field reports prepared by technician and/or inspectors.Coordination and management of project documents (e.g., plans, specifications, etc.)Preparation of summary reports and other formal documentation.Provide clear, effective, and constant communications with clients and team members. Coordinate scope and pricing changes with the Client, with involvement of the CS Department Manager. Assist in preparing project proposals and statements of qualifications (SOQ)Actively participate in business development as directed by manager.     Education / Qualifications
    5 - 10+ years of experience in construction, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, or related infrastructure projectsBachelor's in civil engineering or related field from an ABET accredited university. North Carolina Professional Engineer Certification preferred.Must have a clean driving record with a valid driver's license. Experience managing projects and coordinating field operations in active construction environments.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Advanced understanding of structural systems and applicable inspection procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) as well as basic mathematical computations.
    Work Environment
    This position works both indoors and outdoors on construction sites, typically 60%/40% respectively. Indoor work is performed in either separate offices or shared space (i.e., cubicles).Subject to the weather and season, but exposure to heat in the summer and cold in the winter is common for field assignments.Occasional lifting of equipment up to 60 lbs.Performing physical activities required of the testing procedures including squatting, bending, lifting, climbing ladders, and traversing difficult terrain.

    Job Summary:

    As part of an experienced team, you will apply your testing and inspection to a variety of projects. Applicants shall have an education or professional background in construction inspection services and have experience evaluating soils, concrete, and asphalt, as they relate to site construction. Experience in flexible pavement construction, report writing and computer skills are required.
