The Electrical Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and complete cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role goes beyond basic takeoffs by analyzing project documents, identifying scope gaps, and developing strategic pricing approaches to position projects for successful bids.
The Electrical Estimator works closely with preconstruction, project management, vendors, and field teams to translate complex drawings and specifications into detailed, profitable estimates. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of making independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesReview construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.Perform detailed material, labor, and equipment takeoffs for electrical systems.Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and risk areas within project documents.Coordinate with preconstruction teams to ensure complete and competitive bid coverage.Solicit, review, and qualify vendor and subcontractor quotes.Clarify scope details with general contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.Assemble and manage complete bid packages, including bid tabs and cost breakdowns.Provide value engineering recommendations to improve cost efficiency and competitiveness.Conduct site walks and evaluate project conditions, including complex or non-standard environments.Verify estimate accuracy by comparing historical data and similar project bids.Maintain organized electronic files and documentation for all estimates.Participate in project turnover meetings with operations and field teams.Serve as a liaison between estimating and field operations to ensure alignment on scope and execution.Follow up on awarded and non-awarded bids to improve future estimating strategies.QualificationsStrong understanding of the electrical estimating process and construction workflows.Proven experience estimating commercial electrical construction projects.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.Experience performing accurate takeoffs and assembling detailed bid packages.Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.Ability to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment to complex estimating challenges.Preferred QualificationsExperience working with general contractors or electrical contractors on commercial projects.Familiarity with estimating software and tools such as Bluebeam, Accubid, or similar platforms.Knowledge of construction means, methods, and electrical systems.Experience supporting large or complex construction bids.
