    Family Intake Counselor

    Brief Description of Position: The Family Intake Counselor will work closely with the Lead Mental Health Counselor and the Director of Community Schools and Partnerships, and will be responsible for triaging newly registered families to the school district to identify community and mental health needs in order to facilitate the delivery of needed services.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    -Provide direct therapeutic counseling support to parents and/or families on a short-term basis.

    -Connect parents to on-site Mental Health Counselor and/or Community School Coordinator when there are identified barriers and/or refer to external community organizations as appropriate.

    -Work closely with the registration team to receive referrals for families identified as needing additional resources.

    -Provide at least 1 district-wide workshop to parents each trimester.

    -Maintain data/records of all mental health counseling services and referrals provided.

    -Participate in all trainings and meetings related to services for students and families, as needed. -Share and report service hour logs, records, and data to the Lead Mental Health Counselor and the Director of Community Schools and Partnerships.

    -Respond appropriately to a mental health crisis situation by consulting with the Lead Mental Health Counselor.

    -Additional activities and responsibilities as agreed to and in conjunction with the Lead Mental Health Counselor and the Director of Community Schools and Partnerships.

    Qualifications:

    -Prior experience as a mental health professional

    -Experience working with mental health agencies and service providers

    -Experience with, or knowledge of mental health/public health needs, specifically trauma

    -Demonstrated ability to work with and provide culturally competent services to diverse populations

    - Excellent written and oral skills.

    -Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s License.

    -Ability to relate positively with parents and families.

    -Willingness and ability to collaborate with district teams.

    -Strong organizational skills.

    -Ability to create and present mental health workshops to adults.

    -Flexible, adaptable, able to bring groups together for a common goal.

    -A working knowledge of computer technology

    -Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate district functions/events

    -Bilingual written and oral skills required (Spanish/English)

    Required Education:

    Must be registered as Licensed or an Associate with the California Board of Behavior Sciences (BBS) as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Clinical Counselor. Salary Schedule: Management: Classified Counselor

    Brief Description of Position:

    Under the supervision of the Director of English Language Development, this position will provide English Language Development, mathematics and other content area instruction to Newcomer students in a multi-grade setting. To provide primary language support in Spanish as needed. To orient students to U.S. schools, and prepare them for transfer to their home schools.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    The following are typical of the duties and responsibilities which may be assigned:

    Provides direct instruction to pupils in English Language Development (ELD) and in other subject areas as needed, including social-emotional learning and community circles.

    Provides primary language support as needed to make new learning comprehensible to students. Assists students in the development of basic school skills necessary for success in a classroom.

    Assesses and observes students in order to determine the appropriate strategies and approaches to be utilized to make instruction most effective for Newcomer students.

    Keeps records on individual pupil progress and assists in pre and post testing for entering and exiting Newcomer pupils.

    Collaborates with other teachers in planning instruction and grouping students for focused instruction.

    Coordinates and meets with the Newcomer Program team regularly to facilitate connection to services for students and families, including outreach to community school supports.

    Attends all District Staff Development related to English Language Development methodology.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities to fulfill position:

    Thorough knowledge of spoken and written English including grammar, language forms and functions

    Knowledge and experience utilizing equity-based methods of discipline and motivation with students of color and English learners

    Familiarity with the second language acquisition process and current research-based methods for teaching English learners

    Demonstrated ability to communicate, understand, and work effectively with students of color and English learners, their parents and other school personnel

    Education Qualifications

    Valid CA teaching credential

    Experience teaching multi-grade/age preferred

    Bilingual/Spanish preferred

    *Middle School experience required

    Personal Qualities: Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students. Professional conduct is expected with students, staff and families. Collaboration with administration and staff is expected.

    Ability to:

    • Effectively deliver an instructional program that is aligned with district curricular standards;

    • Establish and maintain a learning environment that advances student learning;

    • Monitor and record student progress in a manner that is understandable to students and parents;

    • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing;

    Knowledge of:

    • Student learning and development principles and practices;

    • Assigned subject matter, including approved district course of study and curriculum;

    • Pedagogical methods and techniques that promote student learning;

    • Student supervision and intervention practices in classroom and campus settings;

    • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary;

    • Reading and writing communication skills;

    • Interpersonal relations skills using tact, patience, and courtesy;

    • Record-keeping techniques and platforms
