    Quad Sussex, WI is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep and operation of facility building systems and infrastructure. This role focuses on maintaining HVAC, plumbing, utilities, and general building systems to ensure a safe and reliable work environment.

     

    Candidates with general maintenance experience are encouraged to apply—HVAC or electrical experience is a plus, but not required.

    Paid relocation may be available for highly qualified candidates located 100+ miles from the plant.

    Key Responsibilities

    Building Systems & Maintenance

    Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems including HVAC, plumbing, and utilitiesAssist with maintaining heating, cooling, and ventilation systemsSupport upkeep of refrigeration equipment such as coolers and air dryersHelp maintain water systems, including basic treatment and monitoring

    General Facility Maintenance

    Complete general building repairs such as:Plumbing fixtures (toilets, sinks, drains)Minor wall repairs, painting, and ceiling tile replacementRoof leak patching and basic structural repairsMaintain and repair doors, dock equipment, and other facility components

    Equipment & Mechanical Support

    Assist with maintenance of motors, compressors, pumps, and other mechanical equipmentPerform basic fabrication, repairs, and adjustments as needed

    We can offer the following shift option:

    Fixed Weekend shift: 5 am – 5 pm, Friday-Sunday, with voluntary overtime during the week (every other Thursdays).  If hired, you will train on one of our core shifts (First Shift or Second Shift) until you are ready to be placed on the weekend shift. 

    Essential Functions of this position include:

    Prepare for Operation - Access job ticket information and set up the offset press machine for the correct substrate, ink, and plate specifications.  Communicate job information and additional instructions to support staff to prepare for production.  Ensure the machine is adequately stocked with supplies needed for each job.Operate Sheetfed Press - Operate assigned equipment within Company safety standards to finish printed products according to customer specifications.  Continually monitor supply levels of raw materials and add as needed.Perform Quality Checks - Complete quality checklist(s) and perform visual quality checks of the product throughout the printing process to ensure customer satisfaction.Perform Maintenance - Observe and monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are needed during the job.  Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of assigned equipment during shift.Perform Line Clearance - Clean assigned area by removing all products from the line, trash, boxes, and other supplies associated with a completed order.Troubleshoot.Attain and maintain proper ink and water balance.Keep an ongoing list of maintenance issues to be addressed during the next scheduled maintenance, one list for all crews.Direct crew to specific duties during scheduled maintenance.Check and set rollers, and change if necessary.Perform needed maintenance during any delay time.Monitor and maintain constant ink densities per customer specifications.Attend all Operators' meetings.Work with urgency, when the press is down, to maintain production requirements.Continue learning new and improved processes to achieve increased production.Responsible for the ongoing training and development of other Pressroom personnel.Assist Supervisors in documenting and improving procedures and processes by offering ideas and suggestions.Assist Supervisors in providing feedback for employee evaluations.Facilitate teamwork among team members and between shifts.Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    Must have 3+ years of Lead Sheetfed Operator experience - packaging/printing field preferred.Experience with Heidelberg XL 106 6-color or K&B Rapida 106 7-color is desired, but other makes will also be considered. Must have an understanding of color, and the ability to pass a color test is required.Must have strong mechanical skills and aptitude.Ability to lift 10-15 pounds continuously, ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally, stand long hours (12-hour shift), use hands and wrists continuously in controlled movement, receive and follow instructions, and use vision to identify defects.Ability to work 12-hour shifts, with overtime and holidays as required (OT paid over 40 hours per week). 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Machine repair and maintenance experience preferred

    We have the following shift option to offer:

    1 opening for 9 pm - 5 am, Monday-Friday+ 2.00 shift premium and 1 opening 1pm-9pm Monday-Friday + 2.00 shift premium.   If hired, you may not train on the shift you were hired for.

    The Operator performs set-up and operates the machine to automatically fold, glue, and affix inserts and/or outserts, security tags, and adhesive labels on preprinted stock to ensure that production accurately meets the customer job order.   

    This plant operates a 10-hour shift schedule, and our open shift option is below.  Please note that hours are subject to change to working either 8-hour or 12-hour shifts, due to production needs. 

    Job Duties:

    Performs make-ready functions.Production: Activate process; monitor production and adjust machine during production run as required. Synchronize the speed of the machine to maximize the crew's output.Perform and/or arrange for preventative maintenance according to schedule.Record router information and information for daily production sheets such as time spent on specific tasks, number of items produced, etc.Operators frequently operate and oversee the operation of more than one feeder/gluer operation at one time.Occasionally train workers on the Folding and Gluing Machine operations and the feeding and take-off functions.Cross-train as assigned.EXAMPLES OF POWERED EQUIPMENT USED: Folding and gluing machines, automatic sealing equipment, Inserters, Tape Heads, computers, trash compactor, automatic labelers (EAM), and roller-conveyor table. 

    Required Qualifications:

    Previous Bobst Expertfold 110, Domino 110, Mistral 110, Masterfold 15 or Domino 90 Folder/Gluer experience preferred (other makes and models will be considered).  Able to perform work-related functions requiring the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.Read, speak, and understand the English language sufficient to interpret instructions, job orders, production sheets, and work-related documents.Able to communicate problems and malfunctions to co-workers and lead/management.Familiar with production and processing. Understands inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods. Able to analyze needs and production requirements.Troubleshooting experience and skill sufficient to analyze the process, determine what is causing an operating error and/or identify what must be changed, and generate some possible solutions and/or use logic and analysis to decide what to do about it. Candidates MUST be on time and reliable. Must be able to lift 10-15 pounds continuously, up to 50 pounds occasionally throughout the shift.

    General Purpose of Job: 

    The Sheetfed First Press Operator is an experienced press operator responsible for setting up, adjusting, operating, and maintaining multi‑color sheetfed offset printing presses. This role ensures printed materials meet customer specifications, quality standards, and production efficiency requirements in a cost-effective manner

     

    Key Responsibilities: 

    Review job specifications and work orders to determine appropriate press setup and materials. 

    Perform all make‑ready tasks, including pulling, hanging, and verifying approved plates; inspecting plates for defects; preparing blankets; adjusting press tension; cleaning ink rollers; and installing plates. 

    Load and regulate ink colors, fill reservoirs, and adjust ink volume to meet print specifications. 

    Load and verify the correct paper stock and ensure proper setup of take‑off and delivery areas. 

    Verify image positioning and quality against approved samples and proofs. 

    Make color corrections and press adjustments before to and during production to maintain quality standards. 

    Start, run, monitor, and control press operations, including feeding and printing processes. 

    Produce and evaluate startup samples, inspecting for defects such as blemishes, scratches, rub marks, readability issues, and barcode accuracy. 

    Inspect printed sheets throughout the run (minimum one sheet per 1,000 impressions) to ensure conformance with job requirements. 

    Document and record all required production information; report discrepancies and follow directions as needed. 

    Identify, tag, and stage defective or non‑conforming materials using established color‑coding procedures. 

    Stage finished goods on pallets with job documentation properly placed and completed. 

    Complete all paperwork accurately and place required materials in the job jacket. 

    Clear and isolate finished goods, make‑ready materials, and waste according to procedures. 

    Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance as scheduled. 

    Record required data on machine boards and production systems. 

    Assist and back up other Press Operators and Press Assistants as needed. 

    May operate and oversee more than one press at a time. 

    Mentor and train team members; promote teamwork and cross‑training on assigned equipment. 

    Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and quality requirements. 

    Comply with all food safety and quality policies and report concerns to site leadership. 

    Perform additional duties as assigned.

     

    Job Requirements:

    Education: High School Diploma or equivelent

    Experience: 

    3–5 years of experience as a Sheetfed Press Operator preferred. 

    2–3 years of experience as a Sheetfed Operator II preferred. 

    Experience with Heidelberg XL106 7-color LED w/ UV presses preferred, but will consider other makes and models. 

    Machine repair and maintenance experience required.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Thorough knowledge of sheetfed offset printing processes, materials, equipment, and safety requirements. 

    Strong ability to read and interpret job tickets, specifications, SOPs, safety rules, and maintenance instructions. 

    Skilled in routine operational maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
