    Job DescriptionJob Description

    Project Genesis seeks Special Education / Accessible Education Teachers / Mentors to work 1:1 with our students in community settings. This role will provide individualized educational instruction and support to students with various disabilities. Project Genesis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

    As a Special Education Mentor with Project Genesis, you will earn $19+ an hour (depending on your level of completed education/verified through an official transcript) and provide academic support and be a role model where you can make a difference in the lives of those students you are helping.

    To qualify as a Student Success Coach / Special Education Mentor, you must have a minimum of a high school diploma or the equivalent, reliable transportation to transport students out into the local community, a valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance. The ability to speak both English and Spanish is also a plus.

    In addition, you must have:

    At least 1 year of work-related experience in the human services or education field. Special education experience is preferred.An understanding of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and related issues.A clean driving record for at least 3 years with the ability to obtain a Public Passenger Endorsement “A” from the DMV upon hire.Ability to travel within a 30-mile radius

    In your role as a Learning Mentor with our Special Education Support Services (SESS) Program, you will work one-on-one with teens transitioning from high school to their adult lives. Some of your responsibilities will include assessing and supporting these students by providing basic academic instruction and helping students learn how to respond to real-world activities to aid student progress while learning life skills. You will also apply behavior management strategies and guide students in hygiene, life, and job skills. You will also:

    Track student progress and maintain detailed Individualized Education Program (IEP) portfolios.Stay up to date on disability-related education strategies.Help students complete basic academics.Teach job skills and career exploration.Teach independent living and social skills.

    Project Genesis, a Connecticut Non-profit, seeks several Independent Living Skills Trainers (ILST) with at least one (1) year of brain injury experience to teach living skills to individuals in our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) program.

    As an Independent Living Skills Trainer / Life Skills Coach with Project Genesis, you will earn $18 per hour. Plus, if you work full-time with our organization, then you’ll enjoy the following benefits:

You also must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, 3+ years of a good driving record, and proof of insurance as you will be driving to a client’s location. A flexible schedule is necessary as is an Acquired Brain Injury and Person-Centered Certifications.

    Our Independent Living Skills Trainers / ILST Instructors are essential in empowering individuals to live more independently and improve their quality of life. You’ll be responsible for identifying areas where clients need support, such as self-care, communication, financial management, or social skills. You will then be expected to:

    Teach your clients essential life skills like cooking, budgeting, job readiness, and transportation navigation.Help your clients develop problem-solving strategies, emotional regulation abilities, and good decision-making skills.Track improvements, adjust interventions as needed, and ensure each client’s compliance with medical and safety guidelines.Connect clients with community resources that advocate for their independence.
