    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Reports to the foreman, operates excavator within safety guidelines.  Prior experience working with water lines, sanitary, and storm lines is required.  Required duties include, but not limited to:

    Operate the excavator/hoe and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment, conducting pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill equipment as necessary.Ensure trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade.Responsible for placement of water, storm and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.Follow directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading.Operate Excavator/Hoe on public roadways and residential areas, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.Be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensure safe work procedures are followed during the lowering of materials into the excavation.Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required.Work in a productive and efficient manner while maintaining the highest level of quality work.Be self-motivated and ambitious.Be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

    Qualifications, Education, Experience and Certifications

    High school diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of education and trainingThree (3) years experience as an Excavator Operator, preferably in Urban areasKnowledge reading locate markings and general understanding of underground and/or overhead utilitiesKnowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures including but not limited to back up procedures, use of flagmen and spotters, signage, incident reporting, required personal safety equipment and lifting of heavy loadsKnowledge of equipment operation, cleaning and maintenance requirementsAnalytical and problem solving skillsEffective communication skills (both listening and verbal)Ability to read and understand field survey layouts, policies, procedures and instructionsTrench safety certification

     

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    Will be exposed to outside weather conditions, be prepared for extreme heat and coldMay at times be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electric shock; loud noise level and vibration.Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Directs activities of workers concerned with construction of underground utilities, water treatment plants, sewer line, water main, lift stations, pump stations, septic to sewer abatements, or other construction projects by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Performs the following duties and other duties as assigned.

    Studies plans and specifications. Develop two-week “Look Ahead” schedule in consultation with Superintendent and assign daily task to crew.Analyze and resolve worker performance problems in advance such as employee or job costing issues and recommend proper plan of action to Superintendent.Review and verify employee timesheets and daily productionExhibit strong leadership to instruct and develop crew.Ensure that the job site is clean and that all safety incident reporting procedures are followed.Monitor the work performed by subcontractors.Set up and maintain MOT for pipe operations.Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

     

    Qualifications, Education, Experience and Certifications

    High school diploma or G.E.D. and one (1) to three (3) years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and trainingMust be able to tie in transit and level, and line and grade according to spec requirementsClean driving recordCertifications: Intermediate MOT, First Aid, CPR, Erosion Control, Storm Water Management, Confined Space, OSHA Competent Person, Trench Safety, Rigging training

    Job Summary

    We are an established underground utility company looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic. This position splits time between our main shop and active field sites, focusing heavily on preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. The primary goal is ensuring fleet reliability and minimizing project downtime.


    Key Responsibilities

    Perform routine preventive maintenance in both shop and field environments.Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine failures.Repair skidsteer, excavators, loaders, small engines, and diesel.Operate service trucks safely to perform field maintenance.Maintain accurate records of parts used and service intervals.Comply with all OSHA and company safety protocols.


    Qualifications

    Experience: Minimum 3–5 years working on heavy construction equipment.Skills: Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and PM schedules.Tools: Ownership of a complete set of mechanics tools.License: Valid driver’s license required with clean MVR; CDL Class A or B preferred.Physical: Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather.Certifications: ASE or manufacturer-specific certifications are a plus.

    Assist in the installation of storm, or sanitation sewer pipelines, water mains and lift stations for municipalities by performing the following duties:

    Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using auto level, transit levels, lasers, or grade rods.Lay out pipe routes and pump station equipment per specifications and plans; Determine pipe classification from visual inspection and pipe size by using an O.D. tape.Inspect installation site for debris and safety concerns. Inform the foreman of any concerns.Locate existing utilities, existing pipes needing repair, or replacement using magnetic or radio indicators.Install and repair sanitary, storm water, sewer structures and pipe systems, pump station equipment in accordance with project plans and specifications.Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.Connect pipes pieces, slip joint, mechanical joint, flange joints, and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement or glue. Seal pipes to manholes.Build inverts and structures by doing mud/concrete work.Familiarity with dewateringWith minimal supervision, guide other crew members in tasks assigned by the foreman/superintendent.

     

    Qualifications, Education, Experience and Certifications

    High school diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of education and trainingThree (3) years’ experience and/or training as a pipe layerKnowledge of the proper and safe operations of gas, electric and pneumatic power tools, cut off saws, pumps, vibratory rammers and compacting equipment.Basic understanding of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)Ability to use an auto level, transit level, pipe laser, pipe cutting equipment, and trench compacting equipment as well as basic math skills to calculate the distance and dimension of the pipesAbility and experience to keep the crew motivated so that productivity goals are accomplished.
