Required Knowledge: A solid understanding of basic laboratory testing is required for this position. The successful candidate must possess good computer skills and be able to adapt to working in multiple computer systems. Must have knowledge of QC and QA as well as knowledge of all areas of the laboratory. Education: BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990. Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation).     The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) represents the face of our company to patients who come in, both as part of their health routine or for insights into life-defining health decisions.The PSR II draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures.The PSR II has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.The PSR II will demonstrate Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants may be assigned to a doctor's office, a patient service center or as business needs dictate.Under the direction of the area supervisor, perform daily activities accurately and on time.

    Key Responsibilities:


    Responsibilities:

    Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.

    Collects and stores specimens in accordance with established procedures.

    Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.

    Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

    Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% correctness.

    Package specimens for transport.

    Stores specimens at the required temperature and places them.


    Qualifications:

    A High School Diploma or GED is required.

    A minimum of 3-5 yr. of phlebotomy experience is required.

The PSR II has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skilful, safe and accurate manner. The PSR II will demonstrate Leadership Behaviours while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants may be assigned to a doctor's office, a patient service center or as business needs dictate.

     

    Under the direction of the area supervisor, perform daily activities accurately and on time.

    Maintain a safe and professional environment.

    Performs with confidence, both the forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.

    Perform verification of patient demographic info / initials including patient signature post-venipuncture to verify tubes were labeled in their presence and that the name on the label is correct.

    Maintains required records and documentation.

    Demonstrates organizational commitment and promotes a positive image to patients, clients, employees and the public in general. 

     

    Job Requirements: Ability to provide quality, error free work in a fast-paced environment.

    Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.

    Excellent phlebotomy skills to include pediatric and geriatric.

    Work Experience:

    Three years phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric and capillary collections. Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred. Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred keyboard/data entry experience.
