    About the School:

    Portland Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and equity-centered school leader to serve as Principal of Ockley Green Middle School. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience leading an increasingly diverse school community and a strong commitment to collaboration, data-informed decision making, family and community engagement, innovation, and teamwork. This leader will approach their work through a racial equity lens and show a deep understanding of intersectional identities, as well as the historical inequities these students and communities have experienced.
    The Principal of Ockley Green Middle School will continue to cultivate a learning environment that promotes academic excellence, belonging, and personal growth for every student and staff member. This position is part of the Office of School Performance and reports to the assigned Senior Director of Schools.

    Ockley Green Middle School is located in Northeast Portland, within the historic heart of Portland's Black community.     Ockley Green Middle School is a comprehensive middle school serving 456 students and offers a Spanish Dual Immersion program. Fourteen languages are spoken across our school community.

    Basic Function:

    Under administrative direction, provide instructional leadership for an Elementary, Middle, PK-8 or High school campus under administrative direction. Establish an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement while narrowing the disparities between the highest and lowest performing students; supervise and support professional educators in strengthening their instructional practices; create a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; foster a culture of high expectation, providing every student with equitable access to high quality and culturally relevant instruction; support and implement the District's Racial Equity Policy; build strong partnerships with families and community; create a safe, welcoming environment that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and communities served; manage operational, technical, and school activities and staff to promote student growth.

"E"Regularly observe classroom instruction and work to improve employee performance as principle evaluator for employee evaluation systems. Ensure equitable access to curriculum standards, programs, and materials regardless of race or achievement levels. "E"Build a shared leadership team which reflects diverse perspectives. Develop and mentor others with an emphasis on administrative team members. "E"Ensure a fair and equitable interview and selection process for open positions. Create a welcoming and supportive environment for new employees. "E"Articulate the school's vision to the community and solicit its support in accomplishing the mission; use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. "E"Actively engage and advocate for historically underserved families of color, including those whose first language may not be English, as essential partners in their student's education, school planning and decision-making. "E"Develop measurable goals for student growth; align with PPS Milestones and/or the PPS Equity Goals; collect baseline and progression data to identify and implement strategies for improvement. Identify implementation actions and regularly report on progress. "E"Supervise or delegate all school operations, including daily school activities, the development of class schedules, teacher and school support staff assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules. "E"Supervise and support instruction by providing professional development to strengthen employees' knowledge and skills for accelerating achievement for all students and eliminate historic barriers; establish instructional systems for monitoring student progress, assessment and accountability to eliminate the effects of institutional racism. "E"Manage and report on various school budgets and finances; ensure compliance with PPS procedures, policies and state and federal requirements.Manage a positive student behavior system; promote social justice; ensure student discipline is appropriate and equitable. "E"Represent the district and assigned school in meetings, workshops, conferences and professional activities at and away from the school site. "E"Use District IT systems to perform routine tasks, such as performance management assessments; accessing financial reports; student data systems; and managing school staffing and budget information. "E"Support District initiatives and priorities aligned with implementing a rigorous curriculum to prepare students to be successful. "E"Perform related duties as assigned.

    Distinguishing Characteristics of the Class:

    A school Principal provides educational and instructional leadership to the students, staff, community and stakeholders served by the Portland Public Schools. Principals may be assigned to an Elementary, Middle, PK-8, High or other school under the jurisdiction of the district. Through articulated and measurable standards, principals advance the district goal that every student succeeds, regardless of race or class, and is meeting or exceeding academic standards and is fully prepared to make productive life decisions. The school principal is a strong leader with high ethical standards who understands and models cultural competence. The principal is a highly skilled communicator who creates connections and maintains effective working relationships with students, parents, administrators, staff, community members and the public.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Knowledge of:

    Education and Training:

    Experience:
    A minimum of two (2) years of successful school administrative leadership experience in an educational setting with demonstrated results in improving the academic performance of students required.Experience working in a richly diverse school community and environment and bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred.

    BASIC FUNCTION

    Support the delivery and availability of equipment by assembling and maintaining equipment, updating equipment status in the barcode circulation system, coordinate the transfer of equipment, orders equipment and processes incoming equipment.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    Familiarity with vocabulary and terminology 9f orthopedics and equipment.

    Ability to :
    Operate small hand and power tools including but not limited to wrenches, drills, and soldering iron.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    High school diploma or G.E.D. Five (5) or more years of experience building equipment, assembling materials, and/or updating data by using computer and barcoding systems. Working in special education environment can be substituted for some or all of the experience when knowledge and skills for position can be provided.     SPECIAL EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT:

    The Special Education Department is committed to providing instructional services in inclusive environments that will prepare students that receive special education services for life and careers.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Paraeducator support the instructional program developed and directed by Special Education teacher(s) and/or specialist(s) for students with developmental & educational disabilities from K-12 through age 21. Services may include specially designed instruction and related services, behavioral guidance and/or management, and/or physical management of students. Services are provided, using independent judgment, as assigned, qualified, and appropriate to the Paraeducator role.

    MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Participates as an effective team member in a manner that promotes collaboration for student success. Collects and reports relevant performance & behavioral data of individual learners that supports the planning process. Implements complex instructional strategies in the classroom, on-campus learning environments, homes, work sites, & other community-based settings. As applicable, assists with modification, development and/or preparation of learning strategies, materials & activities to accommodate different learning styles, ability levels, and other learning needs of students. Implements & modifies behavioral strategies with students that are consistent with classroom & building behavioral goals. As applicable, performs tasks assigned by occupational & physical therapists, speech language pathologists, & other providers in the delivery of related services. Carries out functional (informal) assessment activities to document information about learner strengths and needs. Complies with all applicable district, state & federal policies, procedures & regulations. Performs support tasks to enhance effectiveness of the learning environment. Maintains & improves professional skills in order to contribute to the learning of all students. Performs medical protocols as delegated by registered nurses. Provides physical assistance to students with disabilities which may include toileting, changing, feeding, lifting and supervising a variety of student activities including playground, cafeteria and bus loading/riding.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Two (2) years, full time, college coursework to meet the ESEA requirements (official transcripts with at minimum 72 quarter or 48 semester credits earned MUST be provided prior to hire). PPS offers a FREE Paraeducator Assessment for applicants who do not meet the minimum college credits.For applicants who opt to take the assessment, employment is contingent on receiving a passing score. Two years successful related experience or training preferred. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to gather and report relevant data. First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50lbs. May also require the ability to restrain 50 to 100lbs. and requires continuous reaching, bending, crouching, twisting, kneeling and the repetitive use of arms, hands, wrists and legs.

    Education and Training:

    A State of Oregon issued Administrative License is required at the time of appointment.

    Experience:
    A minimum of two (2) years of successful school administrative leadership experience in an educational setting with demonstrated results in improving the academic performance of students required.Experience working in a richly diverse school community and environment and bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred.

    Positions in this classification may require the use of a personal automobile and possession of a valid Class C Oregon driver's license.Work hours will routinely include on- and off-campus evening and weekend activities and meetings and district, school and student functions.
