    SUMMARY

    The Medication Aide is responsible for assisting in the administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, and Assisted Living Director and in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures and practices of the property, and the requirements of the state. Responsible for maintaining a current accounting of all medications residents are taking and the documentation required for that process. Responsible to report all change in status of residents as it relates to assisting with medications. Reports to: Assisted Living Director, Lighthouse Care Director or Lighthouse Program Director, as assigned.

    Assists residents with their daily medications, treatments and resident care as assigned and within the scope of practice, policy and procedures and Title 22 Regulations.Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed. Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered, including reason(s) for refusal and notify supervisor and/or Executive Director.Maintain accurate, complete and confidential resident medication and care records according to established procedure and state law.Keep medicine carts and areas orderly, clean and appropriately stocked and locked. Maintain upkeep and cleanliness of medicine carts and medication rooms.Assist caregivers in the performance of their job and assume caregiver activities when needed


    Track all orders for medication changes and/or refills.Participate in and complete narcotic count at beginning and end of each shift. Report any and all discrepancies to Assisted Living Director or Lighthouse Care Director immediately.Prepare medication for distribution to residents as per the SSL Medication Policy.Communicate with physicians and family members as appropriate.Observe and communicate to Assisted Living Director, Lighthouse Program Director or shift supervisor any changes in resident physical or mental status.Carry a radio and/or pager as directed by supervisor to ensure prompt response to resident issues.Be familiar with the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by the residence, pharmacists and physicians.Demonstrate knowledge of infection control, i.e., adequate hand-washing, blood borne pathogens procedures, universal precautions, etc.Maintain all required licenses/certifications as required by state law.Report occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the property’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.Per State of California regulations, as a “mandated reporter” you must report all known or suspected incidents of resident abuse of dependent adults or elders.Provide support to community’s marketing efforts through positive/friendly interaction during all property tours and telephone contact with the public, and as directed by a supervisor.Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards.Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.Support a positive and professional image through actions and dress.Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Assisted Living Director, Lighthouse Care Director or Lighthouse Program Director.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Age Requirement:

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:

    Experience working with elderly clients preferred. Experience with handling medications preferred.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to make simple mathematical calculations.

    Equipment:

    Use of standard office equipment, telephone and personal computer.

    Reasoning Skills:

    Demonstrates an awareness and concern for resident safety at all times. Ability to make independent decisions and works without supervision. Knows and understands facility fire plan, disaster plan, and safety procedures.

    Oral/Written Communication Skills:

    Ability to follow written and oral directions.

    Ability to interact tactfully with residents and family members, staff and general public. Ability to read, write and speak English.

    Physical Effort:

    Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test result not more than 6 months prior or seven (7) days after employment. Be mobile and able to perform physical requirements of the job.

    Makes resident satisfaction a high priority. Maintains a positive attitude in all situations. Displays sincere compassion towards older adults. Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families.

    The Cook is responsible for preparing food in accordance with the approved menu, current standards, guidelines, and regulations with established procedures, and as may be directed by the Executive Director and/or Food Service Director to assure that quality food service is provided at all times. Reports to: Food Service Director.

    Prepare and serve all food items and meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes ensuring all meals and food prepared are palatable and appetizing. Assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, events, etc.Inspect special diet requests and orders to assure that the correct diet is being served.Prepare and serve substitute foods to residents who refuse foods served. Make only authorized food substitutions and consult with and advise Food Service Director on menu changes.Prepare food and serve in accordance with sanitary regulations, as well as with established policies and procedures. Reports any incidents or infractions to Food Service Director.Ensure that food storage areas are clean and properly arranged at all times.Obtain and maintain a valid Serv Safe/Food Handler’s permit.Assist, when requested, in the purchasing of food and supplies. Ensure that stock levels of staple/non-staple food, supplies, equipment, etc., are maintained at adequate levels at all times. Work closely with the Food Service Director in specifying and selecting food products.Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies.Properly label, date and store all food leftovers.Check in all purchases in absence of Food Service Director. Assist in inventory and storing in- coming food, supplies, etc. as necessary.Assist in serving meals as necessary on a timely basis.Open or close kitchen as dictated by department scheduling.



    Record temperatures of coolers and freezers as required by company policy.In the absence of the Food Service Director, ensures all staff arrive and/or depart at scheduled times as posted.Responsible for all cleaning items assigned to this position, as posted on daily/weekly checklist and those assigned by Food Service Director.Ensure that the next day’s items are in stock and pulled and thawing under refrigeration as dictated by the menus.Prepare soups, appetizers, entrees, vegetables, side dishes, and desserts for both the regular and special diets for the residents, as well as the meals served to the staff and all special events requiring food service.Plan the timing of food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.Maintain control over meal portions and food consistency. Estimate food requirements and controls serving portions thereby eliminating waste and leftovers.     Qualifications

    SUMMARY

    The Caregiver is responsible for providing personal assistance and routine daily care and services related to the residents in accordance with the Resident Care Profile, and as may be directed by the Executive Director and Assisted Living Director in order to enhance the residents’ independence and quality of life. In addition, the Caregiver is responsible for assisting residents with recreational activities to help maintain their optimum level of functioning. Reports to: Assisted Living Director or Lighthouse Care Director or Lighthouse Program Director, as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

    Assist residents in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) tasks as needed and directed. This includes bathing, grooming, personal and dental hygiene, transportation to meals and activities, bowel and bladder functions (e.g., take to bathroom, portable commode, change incontinency products, etc.), shaving, dressing, and hair care.Respond to resident’s needs promptly while maintaining each resident’s self- respect, personal dignity, personal safety and confidentiality.Assist residents into and out of bed and wheelchair as needed, following safe lifting/transferring techniques.Assist residents at mealtime, providing assistance with serving meals and clearing tables after each meal, as directed. Deliver room trays, as directed.Encourage residents to participate in daily activities such as bed making, laundry, and setting tables.Encourage and assist residents in keeping rooms neat and maintaining a safe environment.Assure that residents are dressed and groomed appropriately.Communicate any observed or suspected resident change of condition to a supervisor immediately.Respond timely to resident pull chords/alerts. Carry walkie-talkie on person and respond as required.Assist Activities Department staff in carrying out planned activities. Assist residents in preparing for activity and social programs.Assure that resident care sign-off sheets are completed by the end of each shift.Assist new residents with arranging personal items and help to familiarize them to new surroundings, by introducing them to other residents.Use Universal Precautions and follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.Perform fire and safety procedures when needed to assure resident/staff safety.Display tact and friendliness when dealing with residents, families and visitors.Attend scheduled in-service classes and mandatory staff meetings.Maintain all required certifications/licensures as required by state law.Per State of California regulations, as a “mandated reporter” you must report all known or suspected incidents of resident abuse of dependent adults or elders.Provide support to community’s marketing efforts through positive/friendly interaction during all property tours and telephone contact with the public, and as directed by a supervisor.Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards.Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.Support a positive and professional image through actions and dress.Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Assisted Living Director, Dementia Care Director, Dementia Program Director or Executive Director.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: One year experience in a health care environment or equivalent preferred.

    Mathematical Skills: Ability to do simple mathematical calculations.

    Reasoning Skills: Ability to work patiently with cognitively impaired individuals

    Oral/Written Communication Skills Ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to follow oral and written directions.

    Equipment Used: Standard household equipment (dishwasher, iron, vacuum cleaner, washer, dryer).

    Physical Effort: Must be mobile. Ability to assist cognitively impaired people with activities of daily living. Able to perform physical requirements of the job. Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test result not more that 6 months prior or seven (7) days after employment.

    Personal Characteristics: Possesses good character and displays high degree of personal integrity. Ability to work with others in providing care. Ability to show sincere compassion towards cognitively impaired older adults. Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families.

    Working Conditions: Air-conditioned, well-lighted health care environment. In dementia unit, ability to work in secured area with heavy interaction with a demented population.

    Other: (As required by Title 22) Employee must pass a criminal record clearance prior to beginning work in the community. Employee must possess current first aid training. Employee must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
