    Supervises, organizes and coordinates the clinical and technical aspects of services rendered to ensure the delivery of timely and quality services.

    Education:

    Must be a graduate of an accredited imaging program for any of the following primary pathways:RadiographyMagnetic Resonance ImagingNuclear Medicine TechnologySonographyVascular Sonography Prefer a Bachelors' Degree in health care field.

    Experience:

    •Must have four (4) years of progressive responsibility in Radiology operations, including knowledge of procedures, workflow within assigned Radiology area, quality monitoring, and general operational troubleshooting.

    •Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

    Certification/Registration/Licensure

    If hired in Mammography- 70550 & 89000 (MA): Must have American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (M) certification as a Mammography TechnologistMust have a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) certification from Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or Texas Medical Board CPR Certification

Responsible for operational practices that deliver effective and efficient services and ensure optimal patient outcomes. Collaborates with medical staff and administration to assess operations and evaluate quality. Identifies and analyzes work processes implementing appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity and efficiency and patient access.

    2. Upholds policies and procedures, conducts appraisals and progressive discipline reports. Responds to patient safety posts and investigations within established department expectations. Responds to inquiries, calls, emails in a timely and professional manner. Communicates shift hand off regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff. Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads. Communicates changes and provides operational guidance to staff as needed.

    3. Responsible for effective fiscal management of assigned areas in the Radiology-Clinical Support division, ensuring appropriate use of department resources. Utilizes benchmarks for staffing levels. Demonstrates ability to flex resources to changing volume and acuity requirements.

    4. Identifies achievable initiatives to improve work processes and improve customer (internal as well as external) satisfaction. Responsible for monitoring satisfaction results as appropriate to ensure the support of the overall goals of radiology and the mission of Parkland. Assists in meeting or exceeding annual patient satisfaction goals established by radiology leadership and Parkland.

    5. Monitors and ensures QC/QA compliance with all relevant laws, state and federal regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements, hospital and departmental standards for safety, infection control and equipment performance. Provides timely access to equipment, supplies, and logistical support to the Information Technology, Bio Medical, Clinical Engineering and Medical Physicists departments. Facilitates/follow-up with repairs and maintenance as needed on equipment and supplies. Troubleshoots system and equipment issues as needed.

    6. Provide patient care as a Technologist when appropriate; responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing basic and/or complex procedures on assigned patients to ensure that scanning needs are met. Review physician orders and applicability to the imaging protocol. Screen patients for safety and review any contraindications for exams which would prohibit or modify the exam. If modification of an imaging protocol is necessary consult with radiologist to determine appropriate sequences, parameters, etc. Document changes as appropriate in electronic health record. Ensure other resources have been scheduled accordingly. Interviews patient (two patient identifier) conducts patient screening and obtains medical history pertaining to procedure's clinical criteria. Explains procedure and instructs patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images. Answers questions/screening concerning procedures, medications, etc. for relevant exams. Available for assistance during scheduled downtime procedures.

    7. Assists with the implementation of new programs related to modality (software, research, educational). Provide quotes from vendors for operational and/or capital budgets. Identifies supply needs, monitors expiration dates of all supplies and takes appropriate action.

Participates in departmental Performance Improvement Programs, radiology user groups such as Radiology User Group (RUG), understands "ICARE" and its relationship to the work environment, attends department and modality meetings satisfactorily.     2. Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria. Completes exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner. Administers contrast material in the correct dosage, route and observes patients for adverse reactions. Enters accurate patient exam data into the electronic health record. Responsible for equipment, supplies, and room preparation in order to ensure appropriate set-up before each procedure.

    3. Interviews patient (two patient identifier), conducts patient screening (when applicable) and

    obtains medical history pertaining to procedure's clinical criteria. Explains procedure and instructs patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images. Answers

    questions/screening concerning procedures and contrast for relevant exams. Assists the

    physician as needed in performing procedures. Ensures that images and records are properly

    completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.

    4. Maintains equipment including running quality assurance checks and notifying supervisor of

    maintenance needs. Maintains a record of quality assurance tests to ensure that equipment runs efficiently and effectively. Maintains all passwords to each computer system. Promptly reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or the appropriate engineering department.

    5. Transports patients to and from radiographic area as needed and consults with physicians or

    other healthcare providers regarding x-ray orders, performed procedures, and protocol to ensure that radiographic needs are met.

    6. Participates in departmental Performance Improvement Programs, promotes Parkland Health

    mission, vision, values, and its relationship to the work environment, attends modality meetings

    satisfactorily. Functions in the department as part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborates in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines. Collaborates with the patient, family and multidisciplinary team to assure psychosocial needs are addressed. Utilizes review of medical record, interview of patient/family and consultation with the interdisciplinary health care team to complete screenings/assessments/plan of care. 2. Counsels patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial consequences of illness and/or disability and other psychosocial issues identified. Provides crisis intervention and counseling for patients and families. Promotes patient and family empowerment and independence. 3. Participates in discharge planning activities. Implements psychosocial portion of plan to facilitate timely patient discharge and promote optimal utilization of patient and community resources. Provides planning for post-hospital placements including Home, Nursing Home, Rehabilitation, Shelters, Home Care, Hospice and DME requirements for safe discharge. Accesses and mobilizes family/community resources to meet identified needs. Intervenes with families with complex psychosocial needs and family dynamics. Educates patient/family and physician about post-acute options and addresses issues of choice. 4. Communicates daily with interdisciplinary team regarding status of discharge planning activities. Validates discharge criteria/plans for patients and families and notifies the interdisciplinary team of newly identified resources or changes in previously identified plans/resources. 5. Provides intervention in cases involving child or adult abuse/neglect (serves as liaison between Parkland and CPS/APS), domestic violence, guardianship (temporary/ permanent), foster care, adoption, mental health level II placement, and sexual assault. 6. Documents screening, assessment, interventions and outcomes to ensue effective communication per established documentation procedures. 7. Manages referrals and communications from a variety of sources such as fax referrals, calls, physicians, COPC Social Workers, Care Management Team, the health care team, community agencies, patients, families, etc. to ensure optimal customer service.     Sonographer-Breast Services

    Operates ultrasound equipment to produce basic diagnostic scans of high quality while ensuring optimal patient care. Breast Center's hours are M-F, 7 a to 4 p or similar.

    Education

    • Graduate from an accredited sonography program

    Experience

    • For sonographers working in Ultrasound or Mammography, no experience is required; one year of experience in specialty is preferred.

    Equivalent Education and/or Experience

    • Education completed in Sonography with current credential from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Sonography (ARRT(S and hospital sonography experience.

    Certification/Registration/Licensure

    •Sonographers working in Mammography (70550) must be registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or have American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

    If hired with ARDMS, then the breast ultrasound subspecialty RDMS(BR), must be obtained within 12 months of hire date.

    Responsibilities

    1. Operates ultrasound equipment used to produce general diagnostic scans to ensure optimal patient care. Determines equipment and supply needs in advance for general diagnostic scans, ensuring patient safety and scan efficiency.

    2. May participate in complex scans and invasive procedures in order to meet vascular credential requirements and career development activities.

    3. Evaluates and verifies images meet departmental quality standards and established imaging protocols. Follows department protocols for image acquisition, labeling, documentation, and image presentation in PACS.

    4. Identifies and distinguishes between normal and abnormal anatomy relevant to imaging sub-specialty and documents in images and electronic health record per protocol.

    5. Maintains required quality standards through use of Peer View and other department metrics reported on a regular basis. Participates in image review and feedback sessions with physicians, senior sonographers, and supervisor.

    6. Observes patients during scan to ensure their safety and well being. Able to assess and respond to urgent and emergent patient events and demonstrates ability to obtain appropriate level of emergency assistance.

    7. Ensures the accuracy of all data entered into the patient record such as arrival, begin and end exam information. Completes other computerized data entry and charging tasks with correct data to ensure the accuracy of patient records and charges.

    8. May access and handle selected medications and contrast media within scope of practice and with supervision and guidance of a Sr. sonographer and/or provider.

    9. Maintains and performs basic troubleshooting of ultrasound equipment and informs supervisor and submits tickets as needed to ensure equipment is operable and safe. Ensures broken equipment is taken out of service.

    10. Inspects, cleans, and prepares exam rooms after each patient to ensure the efficiency of patient flow within the area. Follows infection prevention practices and completes any logs or documentation as required. Participates in Environment of Care (EOC) rounds and inspection readiness activities.

    11. Actively participates in training of sonography students on clinical rotation in department.

    12. Maintains positive working relationships using Parkland Colleague Behavior guidelines. Serves as a resource person for physicians, other sonographers, students, and patients to ensure an efficient flow of patient information and care.

    13. Assists in the department orientation and on boarding of new sonographers, APP staff, support staff and/or resident physicians.
