Are you a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care? Orthopaedic Associates of Maine is seeking a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Pre-Op History & Physicals Clinic. This is a flexible, 1–2 day per week, on-site role—perfect for an experienced provider seeking a rewarding position without the demands of call, weekends, or surgical first assist responsibilities.
In this role, you will play a critical part in preparing our surgical patients for success by conducting comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, optimizing their readiness for surgery, and ensuring a smooth surgical journey.
What You’ll Do:
Conduct thorough pre-operative history and physical examinations in alignment with clinical and regulatory standards.Perform surgical consent discussions with all patients to ensure they fully understand the procedure and are comfortable with next steps.Review and assess medical records, labs, imaging, and diagnostic tests to identify potential perioperative risks.Document all findings in a timely and accurate manner in the electronic medical record (EMR).Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the perioperative team.Educate patients about their surgical process, answer questions, and address concerns with compassion and expertise.Collaborate with referring providers and specialists when additional information or optimization is needed.Maintain compliance with all institutional and regulatory policies.
What We’re Looking For:
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.Current Maine license (or eligibility) and national certification (NCCPA or NP board certification).BLS certification required; DEA registration preferred but not required.Prior experience in orthopaedics, internal medicine, perioperative, or pre-op evaluation is a plus.Strong communication, organizational, and clinical assessment skills.Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinic environment.
