Orion Engineers is looking for a dynamic Project Engineer with a focus on infrastructure and the transportation industry to join our growing firm.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the VP - Structures, a Transportation Project Engineer will assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, structural design, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specifications are recommended. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. Activities will vary and can include: Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.Research design options and document findings.Responsible as a member of the design team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.Research code requirements.Prepare environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule, scope or additional services.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing current professional publications; establishing professional networks; and participating in professional societies.Assist or participate in the preparation of project proposals and other business development efforts.May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on highway design, traffic and transportation engineeringProfessional Engineer (PE) Licensure for the State of Illinois requiredStrong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skillsMinimum 3+ years progressively responsible experience as a Transportation Engineer or similar positionDemonstrate familiarity with ISTHA/IDOT policies, roadway design and plan preparation, and construction engineeringMust have experience with MicroStation design softwareExperience with Geopak SS4/3D experience with modeling, cross sections and SUDA a plusQualified candidate must have a good work history and possess a valid driver's license to use company-owned vehicles to travel to project locations, perform field work, or attend off-property meetings PAY, PERKS, & BENEFITSCompetitive starting salary ranging from $85,000 to $110,000, based on experience and qualificationsComprehensive benefits package including 401(k) match, health, dental, vision, life insurance, LTD/STD, EAP, commuter, and moreHybrid work environment within a dynamic companySupportive, collaborative culture focused on inclusion and belongingEngaging social, wellness, and community service opportunities
