@Orchard is retained by a top geospatial technology company in their search for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to join their team. This role will be performed at the customer facility located in Springfield, VA, and will create technology solutions for data collection, data analytics, data visualization, and user workflow automation. You will get to work on an interesting mission focus with large data sets and create solutions with technology in support of national security. You will work directly with analysts to understand mission needs and generate solutions. Technical tasks include ELT, managing, analyzing, and visualizing large sets of geospatial data to extract meaningful knowledge with cloud-based processing technologies and emerging data science techniques. Our client is seeking a self-motivated engineer who is comfortable digging into data, trying innovative approaches, and isn't afraid to fail fast and move on to other techniques/ideas.
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer you will:
Design and implement efficient, flexible solutions that can scale for mission critical applications.Remain active in all aspects of the development lifecycle, including planning, requirements development, software design, implementation and build, documentation, testing, deployment and maintenance.Apply software standards and processes to produce high quality, extensible, and maintainable software solutions.Work with cloud tech stacks to perform data extraction, manipulation, transformation; visualization of geospatial-temporal data setsDevelop analytics/derivative data products to help users extract meaningful knowledgeShow a proactive approach to trouble shooting and problem-solving issuesWork directly with users throughout the IC/DoD to understand their requirements and propose technical solutionsCollaborate with diverse teams of engineers, clients, and usersHave the ability to work full time onsite
Minimum Requirements:
Must be a US citizen.Current Top Secret security clearance w/ SCI Eligibility and willing to get a CI poly.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technology fields5+ years of proficient experience with:Developing custom software solutionsPerforming data extraction, manipulation, visualization, and analysis with strong proficiency in Java, Python or C++Linux skills and familiarity with cloud architectures, AWS, C2SNoSQL Data Stores - Elastic, MongoDB, etc.Development tools such as Git, Eclipse, MavenAbility to work both independently and in a team environment.Must be able to work full-time, on-site in Springfield, VA.Preferred Qualifications:

This role will be performed at their office located in Herndon, Virginia. As a team member, you will have the opportunity to closely support mission partners, and your work will have direct mission impact. In this role, you will work closely with other software developers to create and maintain a diverse range of applications served out to thousands of users.
The Team/The Work/The Environment:
Our client’s team is a multi-faceted software development and systems administration team working to build and maintain software applications backed by a self-managed, on-prem private cloud and big data stack, housing over 15 petabytes of data.Their diverse background in mission support and data science expertise serve as a catalyst to solve unique and challenging technical problems in support of special operations analysts and their on-going activities.Rapid development and frequent, iterative feedback are core to their delivery approach, anchored by a need to work quickly in support of their mission customers.
Your Role:
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer you will focus on developing web applications for real-time query and analysis of a petabyte-scale data store, creating distributed analytics purpose-built to support mission partners, and helping construct new and maintain existing data pipelines tasked with automatically retrieving and ingesting data.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be a US citizen.Current Top Secret security clearance w/ SCI Eligibility and willing to get a CI poly.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field (4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree. A Master's degree may count as an additional 2 years of experience.).5 years demonstrated experience with programming, design, and development.In-depth knowledge in Python, Java, or similar programming language.Working knowledge of containerization (Docker, Podman) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Nomad, etc).Experience with ORM software (Django, SQLAlchemy, Hibernate, etc)Working knowledge of Linux operating systems (navigating the filesystem, common management commands, etc)Understanding of TCP/IP networking and working knowledge of remote system workflows (SSH, port forwarding, server/client architecture, etc)Exposure to building and supporting solutions in a cloud like environment (such as OpenStack).Working knowledge of agile software development practices and tools, such as GitLabMust be able to work full-time, on-site in Herndon, VA.Preferred Qualifications:
