Orbital is seeking an Instrument Engineer with 10+ years of experience to support our Instrumentation Department in our Baton Rouge, LA, office. This person would provide technical and project execution oversight for various projects. The position requires project and resource management experience in a consulting environment, and well-rounded expertise in heavy industrial retrofit engineering projects in the petrochemical, oil & gas and industrial gas industries.
The position requires the Senior Instrumentation Engineer to perform in varying roles related to personnel management, project management, senior technical support, and customer relationship development.
The ideal candidate will be a high performing, critically thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Essential Functions
Responsible for the execution of all activities of the department. Schedule, organize, direct and review all department resources and activities.Hire staff, establish individual goals and expectations, and conduct performance reviews. Direct, develop, supervise and provide technical guidance to all direct reports.Establish and execute operational plans for the department with respect to routine, tools and resources to ensure consistent operations and growth of skill sets.Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department.Lead instrumentation project engineering and develop contractor construction packages including instrument datasheets, equipment plans, cable/conduit routing plans, interconnecting wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and scopes of work. For larger projects, coordinate with other engineers and designers as required to execute the scope. Review calculations and deliverables for completeness and accuracy prior to issuance to client.Prepare and guide/supervise the preparation of single or multidiscipline engineering proposals including development of scopes of work, project schedules and cost estimates.Prepare, review and/or check engineering calculations, designs, drawings and other project documents related to this specific discipline on projects as required.Develop, maintain and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects, as well as centralized design basis and historical references.Provide enhanced customer support as a technical liaison and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.Support the organization through interaction with managers and staff at other Orbital offices, including recruiting and training efforts.Ensure all department operational and project activities are completed in accordance with Orbital’s Project Management system through implementation and enforcement of stated policies and requirements.Lead projects with a variety of durations, prioritizing both long-term planning, as well as provide leadership in a fast-paced engineering environment requiring expedited turnaround.Other Duties

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Systems or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university is required.A minimum of 10 years senior level engineering experience in the heavy industrial environments and marketplaces served is required. Successful experience in leadership roles managing engineering teams and/or engineering departments is also required, preferably in a consulting engineering environment. Superior communication and interpersonal skills with clients and engineering personnel are essential. Project management experience including an understanding/use of project management and project control principles/tools is also preferred. Knowledge and application of standards (ISA) that apply to instrumentation and controls and the current version of the NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC).Proficient in reading, understanding and revising engineering deliverables including P&ID’s and PFD’s. specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, and actuated valves, Cabinet Fabrication Drawings, Instrument Loop Diagrams, Logic diagrams, Instrument Installation Details, etc.Experience and knowledge to specify equipment required for control systems (PLC’s/DCS’s) and attend FAT/SAT for that equipment.Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (INTOOLS) or similar softwareProfessional Engineer (PE) License is preferredLocation Note:

Job Description:
Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Distribution Engineer for a REMOTE WORK role to support electric utility projects in the Greater Kansas City area. This position allows the candidate to work remotely, but they must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Greater Kansas City area in order to support local projects.
Orbital Engineering’s Utility Services Department partners with Utility and Communication Companies in Engineering and Construction operations for Joint Use Pole Attachment Programs (JU) and Distribution Engineering Design Projects.
This position will directly support projects within the Utility Services Department’s pole attachment application process and utility distribution design process.
Essential Functions
Prepare and develop distribution voltage construction packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and pole replacements as part of an infrastructure improvement programAssist with distribution line design 2.4kV - 34kVWork with Designers and Engineers to prepare new drawings, modify existing drawings, or create as-built documentsAssist in the preparation of proposals, engineering/project cost estimates, and execution schedulesProvide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiativesProvide quality reviews of work prepared by others and adhere to the QA/QC processPrepare calculations and assist with equipment specificationsEvaluate loading of various equipment components being installed such as transformers and structural loading of poles to ensure a cost-effective, safe and reliable design utilizing client specifications.Visually identify, inspect, and record equipment and different construction situations in the field, including rights-of-wayApply National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards, Client Standards, Federal, State or Local Municipal Guidelines, and/or other applicable guidelines to complete engineering designs (Pole Replacements, Communication Space Rearrangements, Joint-Use Design) for possible joint-use or make-ready constructionAbility to analyze field collected data (including imagery) and accurately update applicable software packages for successful design implementationRegularly utilizes Client proprietary software packages or equipment to complete daily responsibilities in the engineering design workflow process, may include facilitating new attachment permitting processAccountable for work assigned and responsible for completing work on project schedule and within project budget while regularly communicating status with management teamFrequently communicates with Client(s) on engineering design to best determine the most cost-effective solution for their projectProvides timely and detailed documentation and support to Orbital accounting functions for ensuring projects are on budget and appropriately accountedTranscribe notes, use measuring devices to identify, inspect, and record the data which is found in an organized mannerAs needed, must be able to work in all weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial areasWork is primarily remote/office based, but fieldwork may be needed throughout the engineering design processMust be willing to travel overnight or for extended periods of time, based on project assignmentWill be required to attend meetings at clients’ sites and regularly interact with the general public, including landowners and operatorsOther Duties

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should be local to one of our offices in Hammond, IN, St. Louis, MO, or Detroit, MI. This person would provide technical and project execution oversight for various projects. The position requires project and resource management experience in a consulting environment, and well-rounded expertise in heavy industrial engineering projects in the steel, manufacturing, petrochemical, chemical, mining, materials processing, and power generation industries. The position requires the Department Manager to perform in varying roles related to department management, project management, senior technical support, and customer relationship development.
Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To
Responsible for the execution of all mechanical activities of the Schedule, organize, direct and review all mechanical department resources and activities.Participate in the development of new and expansion of existing business opportunities.Provide enhanced customer support as a technical liaison and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.Hire staff, establish individual goals and expectations, and conduct performance reviews.
