As a Dockworker, you'll play a key role in loading and unloading freight efficiently, contributing to our overall warehouse and material handling operations. When delivering freight, operate various tractor-trailer combinations between company service centers and customer facilities or work sites within the service center's geographic area. May sort, handle, load, and/or unload freight at company and customer locations. Would have flexible scheduling availability to include third shift, evening, weekend, and some holidays. Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred Experience: Must have the ability to read, write, speak English and perform simple mathematical calculations with general mental abilities to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, etc. Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL-A) with hazardous materials, and twin/triple trailer endorsements. Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record. Responsibilities + Complete shift manager's training as an understudy with an experienced manager or supervisor. + Trainees will complete forklift job training knowledge and production exercises on all jobs within the service center. + Trainees will participate in ODTDT (Old Dominion Truck Driving Training) program to obtain CDL license. + Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments. + Completes department/area knowledge indicators and develops new indicators as well as process and procedure changes. + Works in AS400 moving freight as needed throughout the system and maintains records of efficiency, quality, cost, hot loads, missed loads, etc. + Works in Workday as needed to update payroll and employee information. + Writes and submits monthly activity reports. + Assigns work to employees according to daily schedule. + Makes quick and informed decisions based on the volume levels and communicates schedule to affected employees. + Inspects working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the area and directs the correction of any improper or adverse condition that exists. + Approximately 15% travel to other service centers to learn the operations and supervise in a different environment. Primary Responsibilities Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with state and federal DOT guidelines. Use various loading techniques, such as loading tight or cross loading. Transport self and/or freight continuously throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces. Utilize Dock Yard Management System to consistently monitor freight shipment locations throughout the service center. Read and interpret shipping labels.
