The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care ActivitiesAssists with admission, transfer, and discharge process.Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, weight for adults and/or neonates, height, and blood pressure.Measures and records intake and output including output from drains.Applies cardiac monitor/oximetry.Obtains EKG.Adheres to the infant security protocol (accurate assessment of band placement).Performs normal newborn hearing screening.Obtains capillary blood glucose for adults and/or neonates.Performs phlebotomy.Applies Fetal Monitor equipment on pregnant patients.Discontinues heplocks and foley catheters. Administers enemas.Collects specimens (urine, stool, blood and sputum) on adults and/or neonates. Makes rounds of patients and anticipates their needs and observes newborns in the nursery.Responds to patient call lights in a timely manner, especially emergency lights.Distributes fresh drinking water and nourishments to patients. Prepares patients for meals; assists or feeds patients as necessary. Feeds normal newborns as assigned.Provides morning care, bed baths and evening care according to established Nursing Care Procedures. Provides peri-care to appropriate patients.Provides newborn care to the infant including bath, dressing, obtaining foot prints, assistance with feeding (bottle and breast), glucose checks.Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.Ambulates patients and instructs on walker, cane and crutch walking as appropriate for assigned unit.Assists with pre-and post-operative care; positions patients as ordered; applies special equipment for safety; lifts and turns patients with proper and safe body mechanics and available resources.Applies comfort and safety measures (side rails and call lights).Sets up oxygen and suction equipment and other respiratory equipment for adults and/or neonates.Applies dressings to Stage I and Stage II skin breakdown.Prepares patient room for MD or RN assessment, evaluation, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Assists with procedures in the normal newborn nursery as directed.Transports patients, equipment and/or supplies during urgent and emergent situations and to front door on discharge.Responds to emergency situations, secures assistance and initiates basic life support.Reports observations and documents appropriately. Promptly notifies RN of any change in patient condition.Performs post-mortem care and transports bodies to the morgue when necessary.Assumes responsibility for the care of patient's prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, eye glasses, etc.Follows established policies, procedures and standards of care in all areas of practice.Indirect Patient CareMaintains a safe and clean environment. Duties may include: maintaining temperature logs on, defrosting, and cleaning refrigerator, straightening linen, cleaning utility rooms, cleaning IV poles, cleaning scale, cleaning and returning equipment to SPD, replacing and disposing of soiled linen bags.Performs duties delegated by the RN to facilitate patient care and the efficient operations of the assigned patient care unit.Collects and inventories patient belongings on admission, transfer and discharge.Completes charges using appropriate documentation.Orders supplies on-line or appropriate requisitions and stocks in appropriate location.Obtains necessary equipment and supplies to facilitate patient care.Assures room readiness for incoming patients.Checks designated equipment for proper functioning.Counts instruments and sterile trays sent and received from SEP as appropriate for assigned unit.Stocks and removes linen from patient rooms.Sets up and breaks down delivery table.Participates in staff meetings.Demonstrates cost effective approach to patient care in terms of equipment, supplies and other resource use.Participates in quality improvement activities.Participates in daily/weekly/monthly QC's.Participates in orientation of new staff.Performs related duties as assigned.Uses established communication channels to resolve work related problems.Understands and consistently demonstrates principles of "Patient's First" philosophy.Carries out assigned tasks and activities on a shift basis, as delegated by the RN.Assumes responsibility for meeting mandatory requirements.QualificationsRequired:

The Medical Assistant is a member of the health care team primarily responsible for providing support to physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow through the clinic; maintaining neat, clean and safe patient care areas; promoting patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner; safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
Assures efficient patient flow through the site: Escorts patient to exam room, identifies patient with 2 identifiers and prepares patient for examination.Obtains accurate vital signs, per organization standards.Documents reason for visit and updates/confirms, allergies, smoking history and pharmacy information.Promptly informs the provider and registered nurse of any significant change in vital signs or acute symptoms.Anticipates/sets up equipment or supplies needed for visit.Cleans and prepares exam room for next patient.Responds to needs to expedite visits and maintain flow of patients and prioritize tasks accordingly.Assists practitioner with medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols such as: Electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection and/or Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing as directed by Provider.Provides high quality care by: Prepares and stocks all exam rooms in treatment area by following established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments.Participates in environmental safety rounds.Maintains vaccine/medication inventory.Monitors and maintains equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines.Assists in ordering supplies and correctly disposes of all expired items.Adheres to office opening and closing procedures.Functions as an integral part of the patient care team and promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner: Accepts and performs delegated responsibilities in a positive manner.Offers assistance to others.Attends and participates in staff meetings.Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients and patient care team (in the office and on the phone.Performs delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, and efficient manner (see specialty practice addendum.Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or ManagerQualificationsRequired:

The schedule for this position is three 12-hour shifts per week 7a - 7:30p with every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and rotating holidays required.

Is responsible for safe and efficient patient transport to and from inpatient areas and outpatient areas. Responsible for cleaning and distribution of equipment used by patient care areas.Part time position, 20 hours a week. Must be able to start at 10am on any day assigned. Every other weekend is required.
Responsibilities
Completes patient transports within set standards of the department.Performs both patient transport and works in the Equipment Processing Distribution Department in picking up soiled equipment, cleaning equipment per standards and delivering equipment to user areas within department standard.Ensures that all equipment is functional and in good working order including current Clinical Engineering (CE) tags.Delivers any non-functional equipment to the CE department. Ensures that any equipment that requires battery charging is charged during storage.Advises Patient Care Services when transporting patients from the unit and for all discharges. Performs accurate and timely documentation of patient movements when leaving and returning patients to units. Notifies nurse who is responsible for the patient prior to any transports.Obtains Ticket to Ride and transports with patient.Ensures all assigned equipment is kept clean and well maintained.Transports patients or guests safely while using appropriate equipment, lift techniques and departmental safety measures to ensure patient safety.Cleans and sanitizes all equipment used in a transport of a patient. Adheres to all PPE policies and knows the proper handling of chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing. Follows established infection control and isolation guidelines.If providing transport upon admission, gives overview of the patient room to the patient and / or family. This includes but is not limited to explanation of contents of the room, where to store their personal items, how to use bed controls, how to turn the coach into a bed, number for room service etc.Assists patient care areas with lifts requiring 2 people or more. Has knowledge of how to utilize hospital lift devices, including maxi slides.Monitors and delivers transport equipment such as wheelchairs to entrances and nursing units to ensure PAR levels are maintained.Responds to code procedures as determined by hospital location.Assists in Cadence Health Fall Prevention initiative when bringing a patient back to his/her room and completing the following: positioning patient correcting in bed or chair, bed rails up if needed, ensuring everything is in arm's reach (ie over the bed table, call light, trash can, etc), no cords on floor, and bed alarm hooked back up.Effectively communicates with the call center dispatch with all transport delays or cancellations.
