Overview: THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS
This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, on an as needed basis, assists with skilled maintenance work on campus. This pool will be used to find applicants qualified in specific categories such as carpentry, electrical, HVAC, vehicle maintenance, plumbing, or other skilled trade work.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED & EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the Assistant Director, Facilities Planning & Management and technical and functional supervision from the Area Lead.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
Individuals employed in this position are expected to be at the journey-level in their respective class series and are responsible for assisting permanent classified staff in performing skilled trade work on campus to ensure that all facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for District and public use.
Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and three (3) years of experience in journeyman-level maintenance and repair work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Performs skilled work in the field in which you are qualified to work in.
2. May be required to operate a variety of specialized equipment, including various hand and power tools; drive a vehicle to perform work.
3. Inspects facilities/buildings/vehicles/equipment for damage and maintenance needs.
4. Ensure the proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
5. Records and maintains work and material records.
6. Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
7. Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
8.Performs other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities generally associated with the type of work you are requesting to perform.
License(s) & Other Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver's License.
Working Environment Incumbents work in buildings and facilities and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, controlled temperatures, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Incumbents may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Physical Demands: Must possess mobility to work in various College buildings and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to operate a motor vehicle, and to operate varied hand and power tools and related equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment.
