    Position Overview:

    We are working with a leading Mechanical Contractor in the Reston VA area to find an experienced Sr Mechanical Engineer - MEP. Our client is one of the leading mechanical contractors in the eastern United States. Their construction experience includes a broad range of commercial and government projects, including data centers, hospitals, laboratories, wastewater treatment plants, convention centers, and hotels. Their expertise is in mechanical piping, plumbing, and HVAC / sheet metal projects.

    They need a well-qualified, energetic Design Engineer P.E. that will focus on mechanical design-related activities including performing calculations, selecting equipment, and supporting the development of construction documents, such as drawings, specifications and support fieldwork including existing condition surveys, progress field reports, and project close-out punch lists.

    The Design Engineer P.E. will plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities and performance of direct reports. This person needs to be a leader who helps to mentor and teach junior engineers.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Qualifications:

    Key Responsibilities

    Design & Engineering

    Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings, models, and assemblies using AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D in compliance with GMP and cGMP standards.Design process equipment, piping systems, utility systems, and facility modifications for biotech/pharma manufacturing areas.Produce and maintain engineering documentation including P&IDs, equipment layouts, installation drawings, BOMs, and design specifications.Perform design calculations, tolerance analyses, and material selections appropriate for cleanroom and regulated environments.Review and redline vendor drawings; ensure equipment meets functional and regulatory requirements.

    Project Execution

    Lead mechanical design workstreams on capital projects from initiation through commissioning, qualification (IQ/OQ), and handover.Collaborate with process engineers, automation engineers, quality, and facilities to align mechanical designs with operational requirements.Support equipment procurement by developing RFQs, evaluating vendor proposals, and participating in FATs/SATs.Coordinate with contractors and construction teams during installation; provide field engineering support as needed.Track design deliverables, manage drawing revisions, and maintain controlled document packages in accordance with change control procedures.

    Compliance & Quality

    Ensure all mechanical designs adhere to FDA 21 CFR Part 210/211, EU GMP Annex 1 (where applicable), ASME BPE, and other relevant standards.Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments; document findings and drive closure of action items.Support change control, deviation management, and CAPA processes from an engineering design perspective.Maintain drawing and document archives in the company engineering document management system (EDMS).

    Mentorship & Collaboration

    Qualifications

    Required

    Our client is a growing CDMO company in the Pharmaceutical Industry. They are a part of a global parent company with sites in many countries. This is an integrated contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) offering specialized Aseptic Sterile manufacturing, filling and lyophilization of drug products in Vials. They have around 1,300 people at this manufacturing site in Spokane, WA

    Group Info: Lead the Equipment Maintenance group supporting the existing and expansion site in Spokane, WA. The group has 4 supervisors for weekday and weekend working 24*7 in 12 hr shifts with a round 20 maintenance Technicians under the 4 supervisors.

    This role will report to the Assoc. Director of Maintenance, who will then report to the Sr. Director of Engineering and Maintenance who is over a group of around 80 technical staff.

    Note1: The company recently completed their 3rd state-of-the-art Sterile Liquid compounding & Vial Filling line and are currently expanding again with a 4th line at this site.

    Note 2: This is a hands-on role and the manager is expected to lead the team by example and perform some strategic Maintenance Engineering work and also lead this group.

    Note 3: This group supports only the equipment maintenance for the plant. They have separate groups for Facility/Utility Management, Reliability and Engineering.

    Note 4: Client will support transfer of existing TN1 or H1B Visa for this permanent direct hire role, but will not sponsor for a new H1B visa.

    Summary:

    The Senior Manager, Equipment Maintenance is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and execution of GMP equipment maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management activities supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. This role ensures equipment uptime, regulatory compliance, and inspection readiness through effective maintenance strategies, strong people leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.
