Field Apprentice — Installation & Service

    About Us

Founded in 1998, Mountain Man Fireplace & Chimney and Mountain Hearth & Patio serve the West Denver metro and Foothills communities with the highest standards of fireplace, chimney, and customer care. We're a tight-knit team built on integrity, heart, unity, technical excellence, and respect. We don't just fix fireplaces—we build careers. If you're looking for a real job with real opportunity (not just a paycheck), you've found the right place.

    The Role

As a Field Apprentice, you'll learn hands-on fireplace and chimney installation and service work under the direct mentorship of experienced technicians. Your job is simple: show up, learn, and grow.

You'll spend your days in the field—on job sites, in customers' homes, on rooftops—learning how fireplaces work, how to install them right, how to diagnose and fix problems, and how to treat customers like they're part of your family. This is a real career path. Not labor. Not dead-end. A genuine path forward.

    What You'll Do

    Learning & Support

    - Assist experienced technicians on installation and service jobs: staging materials, handling tools, learning by doing

    - Observe and ask questions on every job—we want you to understand the why behind everything

    - Complete daily job checklists and learn company processes from day one

    - Progress toward doing independent work on common jobs by the end of your first year

    Hands-On Work

    - Work on fireplace installations, chimney sweeps, annual inspections, gas appliance repairs

    - Use a tablet to document jobs and upload photos—yes, real technology, not just hammers

    - Write weekly field logs reflecting what you learned each week

    - Follow professional standards: you're in people's homes, and we respect that

    Growth & Development

    - Get your industry certification (NFI or CSIA) within 6–12 months—we pay for it all

    - Progress from Apprentice → Journeyman → Lead Technician as you develop skills

    - Expect a promotion review within 12–18 months if you meet development milestones

    - Work with a Lead Technician who is invested in your success

    What We're Looking For

    Must-Haves:

    - High School Diploma or equivalent

    - Valid Colorado driver's license with clean driving record

    - Willingness to learn. Genuinely. Show up ready to listen, observe, and improve every day.

    - Strong work ethic—you own your mistakes and fix them

    - Professional demeanor—you represent our company in customers' homes

    - Reliable transportation (AWD vehicle preferred for mountain driving)

    - Comfort with basic technology—you'll use a tablet on day one

    Bonus Qualities:

    - Mechanical curiosity—you like knowing how things work and why

    - Some experience in construction, HVAC, or any hands-on technical trade

    - Customer service background

    - Physical capability to work in all weather, on rooftops, at heights, in tight spaces

    What You DON'T Need:

    - Prior fireplace or chimney experience—we'll train you fully

    - Any special technical background

    - College degree plans—we hire for the work, not the resume

    Schedule & Location

    - Full-time: Monday–Friday + rotating Saturdays

    - Location: Based in Evergreen, CO; work throughout Denver Metro and Foothills

    - Hours: Flexible—we work with you on scheduling needs

    What You'll Earn

    Compensation:

    - Competitive hourly rate for entry-level technicians $23/hour

    - Pay increases as you earn certifications and demonstrate skills

    - Performance bonuses possible as you advance

    Benefits:

    - Health insurance & 401(k) matching (available with full-time employment)

    - Company-paid certification training (NFI or CSIA)—required within 6–12 months, fully funded by us

    - Mileage reimbursement

    - Paid time off per company policy

    - A genuinely good team in a beautiful part of Colorado

    Why This Matters

Not every young person is headed to college—and that's completely fine. Some of the most successful, fulfilling careers happen in the trades. You'll:

    - Earn real money while learning (not paying tuition)

    - Get certified in an industry-recognized skill

    - Build a career path with clear advancement opportunities

    - Work with your hands doing work that matters—people rely on you to keep their homes safe and warm

    - Be part of a team that values you, trains you, and invests in your growth

You'll never wonder if you're "just a helper." From day one, you're learning a real trade. By year two, you could be earning $50K+. By year five, experienced technicians at our company earn solid six figures.

    A Note for Parents

If your young adult is reading this, or if you're a parent wondering about non-traditional career paths: the trades are a legitimate, lucrative, and fulfilling option. At Mountain Man, we invest in our apprentices because our future depends on technically excellent people. We provide structure, mentorship, real earning potential, and a genuine career path. Your young adult won't be "just labor"—they'll be learning a skilled trade with real market value. Within 12–18 months of certification, they could be earning $45K–$60K. Within 5 years, experienced technicians earn six figures.

We treat our team like family. We're proud of what we do, and we're proud of who we hire.
