Write, update, and manage compliant IEPs in accordance with IDEA and SCDE state regulations.Collect input from classroom teachers to develop measurable, standard-aligned goals.Conduct and lead IEP meetings, ensuring meaningful parent participation and accurate documentation.Ensure all IEPs, evaluations, eligibility determinations, and service plans are completed within state and federal timelines.Maintain accurate Special Education files, including documentation of parent communication, service logs, progress monitoring, and team meeting notes.Ensure confidentiality of student records and secure handling of Special Education files.Work with related service providers (Speech, OT, PT, School Psychologist, Behavior Specialists, etc.) to ensure coordinated and compliant services.Facilitate eligibility/reevaluation processes by gathering teacher input, monitoring data, and coordinating with the school psychologist and evaluators.Review evaluation reports for accuracy and seek clarification when needed.Progress Monitoring & Reporting
Monitor student progress toward IEP goals through data collection and assessments.Collaborate with teachers to complete progress reports each grading period.Update goal progress, service minutes, and instructional adjustments based on evaluation data.Ensure compliance with all state timelines for evaluations, IEP reviews, and progress reporting.Section 504 Responsibilities
Review and update 504 plans annually in compliance with federal Section 504 regulations.Facilitate 504 meetings with parents and staff.Ensure accommodation is implemented and documented.Assessment & Testing
Coordinate and provide testing accommodation during state and local assessments per IEP/504 requirements.Assist with scheduling, monitoring, and test security during assessment windows.Family & School Collaboration
Establish strong, collaborative relationships with families to support student progress and IEP implementation.Maintain open and ongoing communication with parents/guardians.Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and support staff to ensure successful implementation of special education services.Participate in professional development, MTSS/RTI meetings, staff meetings, and charter-school events as required.General Duties

The School Nurse promotes and maintains a safe and healthy environment for students and staff, contributes to a positive learning climate, and serves as an essential member of the school team. The nurse assesses student health needs, provides appropriate direct care, and identifies students requiring further medical evaluation or support. The nurse ensures compliance with South Carolina immunization requirements, monitors communicable disease concerns within the school community, and coordinates appropriate prevention and response efforts.
The School Nurse conducts health screenings as required and makes referrals to relevant agencies or healthcare providers, following up on students with identified health concerns. The nurse responds to medical emergencies and provides first aid, triage, and crisis intervention. Health education is provided to students and staff both informally and formally, supporting healthy behaviors and self-management where appropriate. The nurse works to improve attendance by addressing health issues early, coordinating care for students with chronic conditions, and assisting families in accessing appropriate healthcare resources.
The School Nurse counsels students regarding health needs and wellness, offers appropriate age guidance, and supports parents through communication by phone, meetings, written notices, or home follow-up when necessary. The nurse serves as a health resource for the school community, sharing information related to student health concerns, public health matters, medical conditions, and their possible academic impacts. The nurse also provides healthcare consultation to school staff, participates in professional development activities, and supports departmental initiatives related to health services.
The School Nurse maintains accurate and confidential health records in compliance with state and federal laws, including FERPA and HIPAA, and prepares reports as required by the school administration or the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). The nurse adheres to the professional code of ethics and standards outlined in the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) Scope and Standards of Practice. Additional duties may be assigned by the school administration.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing and must possess an active South Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse (RN) license; Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) may be considered depending on school policy but must work under appropriate supervision. CPR certification and current training in first aid and emergency procedures are required. A minimum of three years of nursing experience is preferred, with school nursing experience considered an asset. Candidates must be proficient in computer applications, electronic health record systems, and general office technology. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and healthcare providers are essential. Completion of all required state and federal background checks and TB testing is required prior to employment.

- Participate in ongoing professional development, including Read to Succeed requirements as applicable.
- Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings when applicable, and schoolwide professional learning communities.
- Maintain accurate and timely records including grades, attendance, and intervention documentation.
- Supervise students during classroom transitions, recess, and other school activities as assigned.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor/administrator
Valid South Carolina teaching credential in:
Early Childhood Education (PK–3), orElementary Education (2–6), or a Montessori Elementary/Early Childhood equivalent.- Bachelor’s degree and completion of SCDE-approved educator preparation requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with early literacy, numeracy, and play-based or inquiry-based instruction.
- Additional endorsements such as Read to Succeed or ESOL.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver rigorous, age-appropriate lessons aligned with South Carolina standards for Grades 5–8.
- Support the unique developmental needs of early adolescents through engaging instructional strategies, cooperative learning, and advisory structures.
- Use a variety of assessments, quizzes, performance tasks, projects, and formative checks — to guide instruction and personalize learning.
- Implement instructional routines that build critical thinking, problem-solving, literacy across content areas, and academic ownership.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design integrated units and support cross-curricular learning experiences.
- Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress, behavior, and academic expectations.
- Incorporate technology, digital tools, and interactive resources to enhance student engagement.
- Monitor and support students’ social-emotional development, including conflict resolution, organizational skills, and self-advocacy.
- Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings when applicable, and schoolwide professional learning communities.
- Maintain accurate academic records, behavior logs, and documentation required by school and district policies.
- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
