Investment Management’s Global Risk & Analysis department has an open position for a Associate or Senior Associate position based in Boston. The position will report into an Officer of Global Risk & Analytics and will interface with business partners and stake holders across the organization. In addition to the responsibilities laid out below, the successful candidate will play a support role in delivering projects, ranging from short-term strategic assessments to large-scale change risk initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Provide non-financial risk (NFR) coverage support across a wide spectrum of businesses and products in alignment with Morgan Stanley’s Non-Financial Risk Management program framework including operational resiliency, incident management, system administration, vendor oversight, and information security.Support operational resiliency reviews to identify and understand third party technology and business stability risks and document on business impact.Document resilience test scenarios (business and technical) and interpret results.Engage with subject matter experts specializing in applications, hardware, networks, and third parties/vendors to ensure resilience priorities are addressed and incorporated.Collaborate with stakeholders in the design and implementation of divisional resilience priorities to support the NFR team and assist in the development of procedures and documentation.Distill complex information and concepts to create impactful presentations intended for risk committees, senior management, and regulators.Provide project management support/oversight as it relates to project direction, planning, schedule/deadlines, and documentation, to progress as well as effectively communicate status of multiple high priority NFR projects.Assist with enhancements and innovation efforts for both NFR reporting and priority management.Partner with our broader NFR team to align on stakeholder communication, resolve conflicts and manage risk, issue, and dependency escalations.Develop and distribute project(s) status, meeting notes/minutes, and necessary metrics to working groups and senior steering committees proficiently utilizing today’s collaboration/presentation tools (i.e., Teams, OneNote, PowerPoint, etc.,)Involvement in other projects and duties as assigned.Qualifications

Department Profile
The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firms books and records, and by contributing to Firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.
The Tax Department reports to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 200 employees worldwide. The Tax Department is responsible for global tax compliance, tax accounting, business unit tax advice and tax planning for the Firm.
Job Overview
Morgan Stanley's Corporate Tax Department has an immediate opening for a Vice President in the State and Local Tax Group working on compliance and reporting functions. The role will report directly into the Head of Morgan Stanley's State and Local Tax Group.
Primary Responsibility:
Seeking a State and Local Tax Vice President to work on state and local tax compliance and reporting functions for a complex financial services organization with a footprint in all major jurisdictions.
The Leading Candidate Should Possess The Following Qualities:
> Strong technical background in state and local tax corporate income and franchise taxes
> Ability to act as a subject matter expert with regards to state and local tax compliance and reporting matters
> Liaison with all members of the Global Tax Department with respect to state and local tax compliance and reporting matters
> Knowledge of ASC 740 and the ability to work on aspects of the Firms effective tax rate and reserves from a state and local tax perspective
> Review of separate, unitary, and combined state and local income/franchise tax returns
> Review of state and local income/franchise tax modification workpapers
> Review of state tax apportionment detail across all Morgan Stanley entities
> Assist with identifying and incorporating federal, state and local tax law changes into current processes and procedures
> Develop strong working relationships with internal and external functional partners
> Ability to work with and manage outside service providers and offshore staff
Background/Skills Required:
> At least 6 years’ relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
> A combination of financial service industry and client service experience a plus (Big 4)
> Strong written, oral, negotiating and presentation skills; demonstrated ability to represent a global organization
> Strong analytic, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
> Strong managerial skills and ability to attract, develop and retain talent
> Experience covering complex state tax issues in a real-time environment
> Ability to work in a team environment and collaborative corporate environment
> Significant state and local tax compliance and ASC 740 experience a must
> Corptax experience preferred
> Financial services industry experience preferred, but not required
> CPA, MS, MBA, JD or LLM required

Investment Management’s Global Risk & Analysis department has an open position for an Associate orSenior Associate position based in Seattle. The position will report into an Officer of Global Risk & Analytics and will interface with business partners and stake holders across the organization. In addition to the responsibilities laid out below, the successful candidate will play a support role in delivering projects, ranging from short-term strategic assessments to large-scale change risk initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Provide non-financial risk (NFR) coverage support across a wide spectrum of businesses and products in alignment with Morgan Stanley’s Non-Financial Risk Management program framework including incident management, system administration, vendor oversight, and information security.Collaborate with stakeholders in the design and implementation of tooling to support the NFR team and assist in the development of procedures and documentation.Distill complex information and concepts to create impactful presentations intended for risk committees, senior management, and regulators.Provide project management support/oversight as it relates to project direction, planning, schedule/deadlines, and documentation, to progress as well as effectively communicate status of multiple high priority NFR projects.Perform deep-dives, risk assessments and summarize observations and remediations in a clear and concise manner for senior management.Assist with enhancements and innovation efforts for both NFR reporting and priority management.Partner with our broader NFR team to align on stakeholder communication, resolve conflicts and manage risk, issue, and dependency escalations.Develop and distribute project(s) status, meeting notes/minutes, and necessary metrics to working groups and senior steering committees proficiently utilizing today’s collaboration/presentation tools (i.e., Teams, OneNote, PowerPoint, etc.,)Provide input into the updating of our business’s Risk & Controls Self-Assessments (RCSA) and documenting issues and action plans.Provide hands-on support associated with the execution of the System and Organization Controls (SOC 1) Program.Involvement in other projects and duties as assigned.Qualifications

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Service:
As a key member of the service team, provide coverage for an FA/PWA/team including:
• Assisting the FA/PWA/team in delivering against their client service model, including preparing for regular meetings and tracking follow-ups
• Providing backup coverage for traditional registered or unregistered Client Service Associate responsibilities at the request of the client and/or FA/PWA/team, such as executing money movement transactions, answering general non-investment related questions concerning client accounts, educating or enrolling clients in digital tools (e.g., MS Online), accepting or entering unsolicited orders and/or entering solicited orders in a clerical capacity
• Remaining current on all policies, procedures and new platforms
Business Development Support:
• Assisting the FA/PWA/team in organizing around and executing against their business plan, partnering closely with other market stakeholders such as Practice Strategy Consultants and Branch Management
• At the direction of FA/PWA/team, executing against all administrative elements of digital and in-person marketing strategies including conferences and seminars or webinars, websites, social media and regular email connectivity
• At the request of the client and/or FA/PWA/team, preparing and reviewing various client reports or financial plans from firm-approved systems for existing or prospective clients
• At the request of the client and/or FA/PWA/team, assisting with research using firm-approved systems
• At the request of FA/PWA/team, participating in existing client and/or prospective client meetings, representing the service lens
• Participating in firm initiatives (e.g., training or education programs), special projects and/or other duties directed by local management
• 2+ years of work experience in a field relevant to the position required
• Four-year college degree or professional certification preferred
• Active Series 7 (GS), and Series 66 (AG/RA) or Series 63 (AG) and Series 65 (RA) required
• Additional product licenses may be required
Knowledge/Skills
• Knowledge of financial services products, including but not limited to equities, bonds, options, mutual funds, annuities, insurance, and managed accounts

Salary range for the position: $50,000 to $95,000/year. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award.
