    Position Overview

    The Special Education Teacher is responsible for the management of their classroom including student and staff management. They design and implement curriculum, student individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior plans, and collaborate closely with parents and other members of the program team including instructional aides, speech therapists, occupational therapists and administration.

    Reporting Relationships

    This position reports directly to a School Program Director

    Key Responsibilities

    Classroom Structure, Curriculum, and Organization

    Design and implement enriching and meaningful curriculum and activities focused on functional skills while addressing each student's IEP goals (community outings, art projects, cooking, special activities)

    Support classroom team in maintaining ongoing data tracking systems regarding behavior, goal progress, and any other areas needed for all students and provide quarterly progress reports

    Design and maintain effective physical and program organization in alignment with the Morgan Autism Center Model (e.g., daily schedules for students and staff, daily/weekly routines, 15-minute rotation model, and other classroom systems)

    Support all students and staff in use of multi-modal communication strategies (e.g., visual first-then schedules, task analyses, social stories, daily schedules, AAC devices, basic sign language, and any other supports needed)

    Provide ongoing support and teaching for all activities of daily living (e.g., toileting, personal hygiene, maintaining safety, and other areas as needed)

    Maintain and demonstrate the MAC model of positivity, compassion, and collaboration at all times

    Direct participation in all daily activities, including physical education, community outings, special events, art, music, etc.

    Other duties as required

    Staff Management

    Supervise, coach and manage (including training and evaluations) a team of 7 - 8 instructional aides in executing program model and philosophy

    Model and maintain a healthy and effective team dynamic among classroom staff

    Train and/or assist in training of classroom staff

    Conduct effective and efficient daily meetings with classroom staff

    IEP Development and Behavior Management

    All program development, student supports planning and implementation must align with the philosophy of the Morgan Autism Center model

    Develop and implement all IEPs for each student on their caseload (e.g., annual, triennial, transition, exit, etc.) in collaboration with all IEP team members (parents, group home, OT, SLP, admin, etc.)

    Design and implement effective behavior intervention plans for all students, based on analysis of recorded data

    Conduct pre-IEP meetings with parents and service providers to discuss direction and development of IEP prior to district IEP meeting

    Submit Triennial or IEP paperwork to admin 1 week ahead of the IEP meeting

    Communication

    Maintain consistent and thorough communication and collaboration with all IEP team members (parents, group home, OT, SLP, admin, etc.), including individualized daily communication to classroom parents

    Maintain professional relationships with school districts, regional centers and other professional agencies

    Provide communication to administrators regarding developing challenges and/or requests for support

    Training

    Attend and participate in training on the Morgan Autism Center Model

    Attend all in-services provided by Morgan Autism Center

    Attend additional trainings upon request

    Experience and Requirements

    Current Education Specialist Credential (moderate to severe)

    Ability to read and write English at a professionally appropriate level

    Ability to navigate pertinent technology (e.g., computers, tablets, Boardmaker, etc.)

    Ability to physically engage with all elements of programming (e.g., daily PE, vocational tasks, physical support for students, etc.)

    Experience working as a credentialed teacher in a special ed classroom

    Physical Demands

    While performing the essential functions and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms and speak and hear effectively. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Position Overview

    The Facilities Technician is responsible for helping maintain the integrity of the Morgan Autism Center campus. They assist in day-to-day campus operations, maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and student and client arrival/dismissal. The Facilities Technician is responsible for opening the campus up in the morning and closing it up in the afternoon. 

     

    Reporting Relationships

    This position reports directly to the Facilities and Operations Manager

     

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Daily and Recurring Operations

    Unlock the campus in the morning and lock/close up campus at the end of daySupporting student and client arrival/dismissal (traffic duty)Ensure waste receptacles are put out and brought back in throughout the weekAssist in maintaining the Morgan Autism Center vehicle fleetManage work orders (either by completing them or calling in an outside vendor if needed)Responsible for set-up and take-down for daily program activities and campus events; including after-school, weekend and special events (as needed)

    Repairs and Maintenance 

    Ensure a well-maintained facility by proactively reviewing spaces for general repair and maintenance needs (wear and tear - ex. carpet cleaning, lighting repairs, painting) working with the Facilities and Operations Manager, team members and vendors to address issues Help with furniture assembly, installation of appliances, equipment set-up, heavy lifting, and other projectsAssist in maintaining day-to-day operations of facilities, such as  maintenance orders for repairs, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, irrigation, landscaping, gutters, etc.Provide classroom support/check-ins to meet any needs and maintenance of individual classrooms 

    Site Clean-up and Organization 

    Monitor the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, parking lots and outdoor spaces Ensure the campus waste receptacles are put out and brought back inIdentify the proper waste removal facility and remove waste such as paint, electronics, recyclables, organic waste, etc. Supplement grounds and garden maintenance (in collaboration with our existing landscaping maintenance crew) Manage storage solutions in order to properly maintain, service, clean and store equipment and necessary itemsMaintain the tools and equipment necessary to support the maintenance requirements of the organization

    Other Job Duties as Required

    Be on-call for emergencies, some weekends and holidaysOther duties as assigned

    Qualifications and Employment Requirements:

    Position Overview

    The Adaptive Skills Trainer Specialist implements instructional and environmental modifications to produce socially significant improvements in the individual’s outcomes through skill acquisition. They should have experience in the area for which adaptive skills training is to be provided.

     

    Reporting Relationships

    This position reports directly to an Adaptive Skills Trainer Program Director

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Establishes and maintains a supportive relationship with participants Provides continuous supervision for participants to ensure safety and wellbeingImplements a continuum of positive programming activities that are culturally relevant and designed to support participants in maximizing their independence Implements agreed upon strategies to minimize the risk factors related to behavioral or sensory challenges Assists participants in developing a schedule which includes preferred activities and is in cooperation with the participant’s Individual Program Plan (IPP) Assists participants in accessing generic community-based services to enhance their ability to participate in independent living skills, leisure, vocational, pre vocational , social & recreational activities in natural environments as prescribed by the participant’s Individual Program Plans (IPP) and Individual Service Plan (ISP) Uses alternative communication strategies including picture icons, computer programs and other functional and adaptive approaches Responds effectively to crisis situations in the community Communicates effectively and proactively with the Program Director with regard to all participant issues including situations when a participant becomes a danger to self or others, there is a sudden illness or their behavioral plan cannot be implemented as agreed upon Responds to questions and issues raised by Regional Center in a professional manner and updates residential staff, parents and others as needed and within program confidentiality guidelines Respects the privacy of participants and maintains confidentiality of information obtained in the course of professional services as per HIPAA guidelines Documents participant instructional and support services using data collection and participant forms, prepares daily/monthly reports documenting participants’ progress toward ISP goals and objectives. Attends meetings as assigned by the Program Director or their designee, including participant related meetings, monthly meetings and continuing education opportunities Prepares special incident and adult dependent abuse reports as necessary and required by Title 17 regulations Performs first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and other emergency services (e.g. evacuation during a fire) as appropriate to the needs of participants Lifts and transfers participants as necessary; assists participants with transfers in and out of wheelchairs and safely transfers participants in case of an emergency Provide individualized self-care support for all clients, including bathrooming needs, eating, dressing, etc., including use of visual schedules and task analysesPerforms other duties as assigned  

    Qualifications and Employment Requirements:

    A bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: education, psychology, counseling, nursing, social work, applied behavior analysis, behavioral medicine, speech and language, rehabilitation, marriage and family therapy, or a comparable degree in a human services field.At least one of the following:3 years of experience working with participants with an intellectual or developmental disability or a similar population orWithin first 9 months of employment, 40 hours of designed training Excellent written and oral communication skills that are effective with diverse stakeholders Proven track record in implementing a positive behavior support plan that can serve a participant who has severe behaviors, a mental health and or substance abuse diagnosis and or judicial involvement Ability to represent the program in a professional manner at all times Must be able to drive Has current TB clearance; certifications in CPR and first aid & " completion of crisis intervention training program (i.e. Handle with Care, Safety Care, etc.) within 60 days of hire, valid California driver's license, clean DMV printout and current automobile insurance Is able to pass a criminal background check and fingerprint clearance Respects the cultural and linguistic values of stakeholders including participants, their parents, staff and community collaborators

Morgan Autism Center offers school and adult day programs and is an important resource for families and professional service providers throughout the Bay Area.     Our Adult Program serves adult clients ages 22 – 60 years old with autism and other developmental disabilities. Clients participate in a wide range of engaging and enriching activities throughout the day. We believe in creating ample opportunities for continued learning to support our adults under the Morgan Autism Center model. The Adult Program is designed with a 3:1 client-to-staff ratio. Each day follows a predictable schedule with various activities that rotate on a weekly basis. Staff are trained to teach functional and social skills to our clients throughout the day. Our clients rotate between staff and spend time with different groups of their peers.

    Position Overview
    The primary role for this position is to serve as a Skills Trainer in the Adult Program for individuals with developmental disabilities. The daily activities include a variety of engagements throughout the day, designed to facilitate continued growth in social, functional, and experiential learning. Skills Trainers must possess the ability to effectively relate to people with positive interaction skills and to adjust to the dynamic needs of our population in a flexible and competent manner. They must be able to work with a wide range of individual needs and implement structure and support strategies under the direction of the Adult Program Director(s). Skills Trainers may be expected to perform other duties as required, in addition to those listed below.
