    Overview


    Military & Health Research Foundation (MHRF) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Sterile Processing Technician to join our dynamic healthcare team at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) continuous years of recent (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) experience working as a sterile processing technician in an SPD setting. Have diverse sterile processing experiences to include instrument decontamination, assembly and preparation, and sterilization. Ability to operate and troubleshoot all processing equipment to include washer-disinfectors, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and automatic endoscope reprocessors. Knowledgeable in the following surgical instrument specialties: general surgery, urology, robotics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, eye surgery, ENT, GYN, vascular and orthopedic surgery.     Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities


    The contract Sterile Processing Technician shall perform essentially the same duties as those required of any military operating room technicians or Government Civil Service Sterile Processing Technician of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.

    Instrument decontamination, assembly and sterilization of the following surgical specialties: general surgery, robotics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, OMFS, vascular and orthopedic surgery.

    Prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgery as necessary, including use of various methods of sterilization.

    Monitors and tracks surgical instruments using computer automated instrument tracking log/system.

    Performs record keeping for all sterilization processes.

    Checks expiration dates on all sterile supply items, removes outdated items, and rotates the stock on a first in, first out basis.

    Maintains and restocks Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) cart exchange program including transportation of CPR carts in emergency situations and maintaining supplies and documentation.

    Assembles and disassembles instrumentation and equipment per manufacturers instructions for use (MIFU).

    Perform daily and weekly cleanings and function testing on all equipment.

    Participate in the Orientation and Training of 68D Students, new employees, medical interns, nursing students, residents, and other medical training program provided by Tripler Army Medical center. The contract Sterile Processing Technologist shall assist with oversight of the 68D students as needed. The contractors may be assigned to assist in the orientation of staff members and/or training of 68D students. Daily assignments may include orientation or training of students and new personnel. The contractors shall assist in training staff members and 68D in the operation of sterile processing equipment, handling and assembling instruments and sets, procedures for decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.

    The contract Sterile Processing Technician shall be assigned to carry a paging and/or other electronic communication devices used by the operating room personnel


    Minimum Requirements


    Degree/Education: High School Diploma or GEDCertification: Completion of a sterile processing/supply training course. Current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management or current certification by the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.Years of Professional Experience: 3 continuous years (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) experience working as sterile processing technician in an SPD setting.Physical and Other Requirements:


    Must pass TB Test

Care shall include but not be limited to routine general internal medicine care to include care for acute and chronic patient conditions. Shall see new patient consults and established follow-up clinic visits. The contract personnel is expected to participate in telehealth and virtual encounters as well as respond to telephone consults and secure messages IAW pertinent MTF and local policies. The contract personnel will also consult with other specialty practitioners for consultative opinions and continuation of care. Shall include routine general internal medicine care which includes care for acute and chronic patient conditions. Shall adhere to the policies of Defense Health Agency and the MTF in meeting or exceeding established standards for access, Preventive Health Assessment Individual Medical Record (PIMR) and HEDIS measures. Shall coordinate patient care with community health agencies and social programs. Will facilitate continuity of care for patients. Has knowledge of a wide variety of resource agencies available in the military treatment system to ensure proper and expedient referral of the patient and/or family member. Shall possess sufficient knowledge of current TRICARE standards, population-based health care, disease management, medically oriented computer systems, and trends in prevention. Familiarization with Department of Defense (DoD), Federal, State, non-profit healthcare systems and organizations, to include DoD Tri-Service Military Healthcare Systems, TRICARE purchased care system, Medicare, Medicaid and the Veterans Administration (VA) is highly desired. Shall ensure implementation of policies, standards, and programs that support the clinical practice within ethical and legal boundaries. Shall possess knowledge and experience in Patient Advocacy, Patient Privacy, and Customer Relations. Shall function as a child advocate and mandatory reporter in the medical center. Shall possess basic knowledge of emergency procedures in order to react promptly and appropriately to provide effective care during emergency situations, respiratory or cardiac arrest. Shall consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required. Shall be guided by the MTF formulary for prescriptions. Drugs not appearing on the formulary must be pre- approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Shall possess basic knowledge of established clinic standards of care and Joint Commission requirements for clinical and documentation protocols, safety, infection control, performance improvement, etc., to ensure compliance with policies and provide consistent training and guidance for clinic staff. Shall ensure patient and staff safety through safety awareness, proper infection control and promotion of clean, orderly clinic environment. Recognizes, reports, and corrects potential safety hazards. Documentation. Shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Shall only use MTF approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records and follow the MTFs Do Not Use Abbreviation List. Shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient. Coding. Shall use the proper coding of procedures and treatment, and shall maintain coding accuracy (CPT/ E&M/procedure) at the same standard, 90% or higher, as military and civil service health care providers engaged in comparable work. Shall be responsible for creating, maintaining and disposing of only those Government records which are specified by the 99 MDG. Shall only release medical information obtained during the course of this contract to other MTF staff involved in the care and treatment of that individual patient. Shall possess basic knowledge of and ability to demonstrate leadership skills in order to provide guidance, counseling, training and professional evaluation. Shall develop and clinically guide long-term management strategies. Shall provide clinical and administrative leadership and expertise, managing patient care and coordinating additional subspecialty referrals, answering patient telephone consults (with the assistance of clinic staff), and refilling prescriptions. May be asked to participate in committees, programs or clinical services directly related to area of clinical responsibility or privileges. Shall provide for ongoing education programs to promote, protect and maintain optimum levels of wellness. Shall provide health counseling to patients and their families and develop a plan for health maintenance based on individual needs. Shall provide instruction, coaching, mentoring, and training for medical residents, physician assistant students, medical students and/or students of other health care disciplines in the form of clinical rotations, didactics and outpatient discussions as appropriate. Shall participate in educational activities to include giving lectures, supervision of internal medicine residents and physician assistant students in clinic duties, teaching residents on internal medicine services. Shall be scheduled to participate in formal educational lectures (approximately 6 per year) Shall collaborate with and provide clinical guidance to other healthcare team members as appropriate during the performance of clinical duties. Shall perform administrative duties that may include maintaining statistical records of his or her clinical workload, participating in medical educations programs, and participating in quality improvement functions and other duties as prescribed by the Chief of Medical Staff or the applicable Government department chief. Shall attend and participate in meetings, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to the following: quality improvement meetings, professional staff meetings, commander's staff meetings, flight meetings, and other meetings required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as identified by the Chief of Medical Staff or the applicable Government department chief. Shall possess basic knowledge of operating a wide variety of medical equipment/non-medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety, proper equipment maintenance and accessibility.     Desired Skills and Experience


    Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.

    Clinically guide, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.

    Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.

    Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.

    Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.

    Technically proficient in clinically directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such clinical direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols


    Professional Certifications:


    Certifications (in addition to Basic Life Support): The contract personnel shall hold and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.     n DEXA


    Formal Education:


    Degree/Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).

    A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
