    POSITION: Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is seeking a Staff Attorney in our Monroe office, which serves Monroe and Lenawee Counties. The staff attorney will provide a range of direct legal representation, advocacy, and impact work, focusing on public benefits and related family, housing, and consumer law matters.

    DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: LSSCM is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP). MAP works to advance the safety, independence, and economic stability of those most affected by poverty, racism, and other structurally oppressive systems by increasing access to justice and working for systemic solutions. MAP has provided civil legal aid for those unable to afford an attorney for more than 50 years. Today, MAPs Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has five legal aid offices in south and central Michigan serving 13 counties with an emphasis on homelessness prevention, domestic violence and elder abuse prevention, and assistance in accessing health care, food, and needs-based income programs. In addition to LSSCM, MAP manages six statewide programs serving immigrant communities (Michigan Immigrant Rights Center), vulnerable older adults (Michigan Elder Justice Initiative), victims of domestic violence and elder abuse (Crime Victims Legal Assistance Program), migrant and seasonal farmworkers (Farmworker Legal Services), providing research and training support to all legal aid advocates (Michigan Poverty Law Program), and providing access to legal information to self-represented litigants (Michigan Legal Help Program).     POSITION: The Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) is seeking a Paralegal to join the Pro Bono Team, where they will coordinate Benefits Navigators and assist with case processing as part of the Healthcare Access Project. This initiative is designed to help eligible low-income Michiganders address issues related to Medicaid applications, redeterminations, denials, and cessations.


    RESPONSIBILITIES: The Paralegal will recruit and coordinate with volunteer Benefits Navigators who will assist clients with administrative obstacles they face during the Medicaid process. The Paralegal will create training materials and provide ongoing training and coordination to Navigators working on the program. The Paralegal will process intakes, interact with clients and assist in administrative tasks related to case handling and clinics, which will require travel (mileage reimbursed) throughout our 13-county service area. The Paralegal will be supervised by MAPs Pro Bono Director, work closely with the Healthcare Project Staff Attorney, and will be based out of MAPs Ypsilanti office with the option for hybrid work up to two days per week.


    QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and underserved populations through lived or learned experience. Applicants should be comfortable working with a high volume of cases and volunteers. Benefits experience is preferred, but not required.

    POSITION: The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) is seeking candidates for full-time staff attorney positions serving low-income immigrants in their immigration legal services needs. There is a position open in our Lansing office. This is a chance to join a talented team doing important and challenging work at a critical time. Please note that this position is funded in part through a federal contract that is currently being renewed under a shorter funding cycle. Employment offers will be aligned with our current contract period (through July 31, 2026), with the expectation and hope of extension as additional funding becomes available.     DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: MIRC is a legal resource center for immigrant communities. The three pillars of our work are: (1) direct legal services, (2) systemic advocacy, and (3) community education and engagement. MIRC is part of Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS), a non-profit law firm providing free legal services to individuals and families with low-income,

    QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified to be admitted by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam.
