    Network Maintenance Technician

    Position Summary:
    Mercury Broadband is seeking a skilled Network Maintenance Technician to support the deployment, maintenance, and repair of our Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network, while also contributing to the upkeep and decommission of broadband tower sites. This hybrid role focuses primarily on fiber splicing and OSP infrastructure, with occasional tower work.

    This is an upper-level field technician position requiring hands-on fiber experience and a proactive, safety-focused approach. The successful candidate will demonstrate independence, precision, and the ability to manage both routine and complex tasks with minimal supervision.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Splice and maintain fiber optic cables, including loose tube and ribbon; perform mid-span, cabinet, and butt splicingConstruct and seal proper splice enclosures, ensuring grounding, slack storage, bonding, and weatherproofingMaintain splicing records, fiber schematics, and documentation with attention to detailPerform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot fiber routes, and repair service-impacting issues promptlyFollow engineering specifications, safety procedures, and project scopes in daily operationsInstall or decommission broadband and network equipment at tower premises as neededAssist with tower maintenance on existing infrastructureOperate and maintain testing equipment such as OTDR, fusion splicers, power meters, and optical light sourcesOccasionally work at elevated heights with appropriate safety gear (up to 300’)Ensure all work meets Mercury’s safety, quality, and performance standards

    Skills and Requirements:

    Strong knowledge of fiber optic networks and FTTH infrastructureFamiliarity with splice matrix documentation, GIS tools (AutoCAD, ESRI), and network design mapsAbility to operate basic hand/power tools and follow structured cabling proceduresExperience with broadband wireless equipment and general telecom infrastructureAbility to work independently in varying outdoor conditionsClean driving record and valid driver’s licenseMinimum of 1 year telecommunications experience preferredSelf-motivated with strong organizational and multitasking skills

    Education Requirements:

    Physical Requirements

    Position Summary: The maintenance technician plays a vital role in the OSP maintenance team by facilitating the construction of a Fiber-to-the-Home network build within our Mid-West region. The maintenance Splicer is a skilled field position in the installation and repair of fiber optic cable, responsible for performing splicing functions. This position supports the Splicing team and works with personnel within the department. The maintenance technician will report directly to the Network Maintenance Supervisor and will be responsible for maintaining safety and quality control on all the builds. This is an upper-level technician position for which we are requiring previous experience. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to produce excellent work on their own without a lot of supervision.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Maintain a safe environment and ensure all safety standards are met.Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables. Be able to complete butt splice, mid-span, and cabinet splicing. Construct proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.Understanding of and creating splice matrix and fiber assignments.Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics, and diagrams Perform work in accordance with industry standards. Be familiar and to read and follow design engineers instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to safety procedures.Perform routine maintenance. Recognize and repair route issues.Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions. Proficient using fiber tools and test equipment, OTDR, fusion splicer, optical light source, and power meter

    Skills and Requirements:

    Familiar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and database management including AutoCAD, ESRI, and/or shape file functionality.Knowledge of network drawings, route maps and scopes of work.Knowledge/experience with project management tools. Knowledge of FTTH Infrastructure, MDU design, materials.Knowledge/experience with Web Applications.Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.Must hold a valid driver’s license.

    Key Responsibilities

    Reads and understands maps, drawings, and diagrams for Telecom/FTTx OSP construction.     Qualifications
