General Summary of Position
The Pharmacy Technician carries out technical responsibilities related to medication distribution and dispensing as part of the pharmacy team, supporting improved patient care outcomes and quality under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. All duties are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and the policies, procedures, standards, and philosophy of Georgetown University Hospital.
This is a Full Time opening rotating day and evening shifts.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares all medications including narcotics for dispensing which includes drug selection, labeling and packaging.Enters medication orders in the computer system evaluating/editing patient data, checking for drug allergies and duplications, calculating dosage conversions, and determining the number of doses/dosage forms needed.Picks up medication orders from the patient care area at scheduled times.Delivers filled orders to assigned nursing units and departments as scheduled.Assists in checking or investigating missing dose requests.Prepares parenteral admixture solutions.Interprets medication orders for appropriate strength route frequency and duration.Monitors stock inventory levels and expiration dates and replenishes supplies of all stock drugs communicating status/availability of drugs ie. out of stock drugs.Processes drug charges/credits.Performs quality improvement activities such as code, carts, Pyxis and checking outdated medications.Responds to phone calls regarding medication orders.Exemplifies guest and staff relations standards in all activities.Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. Independently assesses, plans, implements. and evaluates the care of patients in the Wound Healing Center and HBO. Assists physicians with the development and implementation of wound treatment plans and participates in performance improvement review activities. In collaboration with the patient and family provides theory-based professional care and coordinates care delivery with the physician and other members of the healthcare team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Ascertains that the patient's diagnosis is one of the appropriate approved disorders for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and that the said diagnosis is clearly entered on the patient's charts/records. All required documentation is to be complete prior to treatment. Obtain insurance authorizations as necessary.Attends monthly/ weekly departmental meetings. Perform weekly new patient review and monthly safety exercises. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Performs other duties as assigned.Cleans and maintains equipment according to infection control standards. Performs quality control daily on department glucometer. Checks backup air and oxygen supplies on a daily basis. Performs and inventory check and maintains a record of supplies and laundry items. Orders as needed.Completes timely initial and ongoing patient assessments considering the physiological psychosocial spiritual cultural and developmental needs of patients and families. Serves as resource in planning care for complex patients. Assesses measures and stages wounds accurately in accordance with policy and documents assessment data completely on chart forms. Communicates pertinent patient information to other members of the WHC team.Consults with hyperbaric physician and/or departmental physician assistant in the event of adverse reactions.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Documents treatment notes and maintains patient treatment/diagnostic records. Completes the patient's treatment charges. Educates patients and/or patient's family as to the benefits risks contraindications and safety issues of hyperbaric oxygen therapy before treatment.Evaluates the patient outcome and meets with the Manager and the panel physicians to discuss patient treatment and adjust treatment plan as necessary.Implements the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan.In collaboration with the patient family and other members of the health care team systematically develops revises and coordinates the patient's plan of care. Documents a care plan accurately for all assigned patients and reviews patient progress monthly with panel physician.Inspects the patient prior to the commencement of each HB02T session to ensure all safety standards are being adhered to (i.e. no makeup no hairspray 100% cotton attire etc.). Assures departmental compliance with all safety policies and procedures.Maintain competencies and assist in removal and application of all treatment modalities employed in the wound healing center including negative pressure treatment total contact casting multilayer compression etc.Performs blood glucose monitoring as ordered and indicated by patient diagnosis. Performs dressing changes and/or wound care as ordered.Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.Performs data entry of patient treatment information into ODMS Database; prints and collates reports as defined by HBO Tech Matrix. Answers telephone inquires and schedules HBO patient treatment times to accommodate the budgeted number of patients per shift. Triages telephone calls and assists with scheduling as needed.Performs the hyperbaric treatments and monitors the patient during the therapy. Must remain with patient in HBO throughout treatment.Performs transcutaneous oxygen monitoring testing as ordered and per departmental policy.Rotates as scheduled through HBO and WHC. Assists and supports clinic within scope of licensure.Takes serial photographs of the wound for reporting patient progress. Maintains a photo log.
