The Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants (ORI) is pleased to announce that it isworking to establish a new legal services program to assist immigrants and refugees. We areseeking passionate, hard-working attorneys interested in joining the program. Thisannouncement is not a job posting and your response will not be considered an applicationfor employment. ORI will contact those who respond to this announcement when theprogram begins and jobs become available—likely in November 2025.Earlier this year, the Massachusetts Legislature appropriated funds to ORI to establish this newimmigration legal services program, which ORI has called the Massachusetts Access to CounselInitiative (MACI). MACI attorneys will provide direct legal representation to eligible, income-qualifiedimmigrants and refugees in Massachusetts through single consultations or ongoinglegal representation, consistent with the legislative mandate.ORI is currently conducting a procurement to secure non-profit organizations to administerMACI. The non-profit organization(s) selected through this process will be expected to hireattorneys to staff this new program and serve its clients. ORI is collecting interest forms inadvance of this hiring process to share with the non-profits that will administer MACI. If you submit an interestform, ORI would provide your submission to the non-profit organization(s) awarded the MACIcontract(s) for consideration in the anticipated hiring process.MACI attorneys will be expected to:• Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school• Be a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of any state in the countryor U.S. territory or has sat for the Bar exam in July of 2025 and is awaiting results• Add new capacity to the Massachusetts immigration bar• Be able to travel to Massachusetts Immigration Courts and detention facilitiesCompensation for MACI attorneys will be set by the non-profit organization(s) selected toadminister the program and comparable to salaries for attorneys with similar experience at publicinterest legal services organizations in Massachusetts.
