Full-Time Children s Librarian The Lyndhurst Public Library is seeking a creative, service-oriented Children s Librarian to support a love of reading and learning among children and families. This position emphasizes dynamic programming, strong community partnerships, and leadership in youth-focused digital services. QUALIFICATIONS/DESCRIPTION: MLS from an ALA accredited program preferred. MLS students or applicants with a background in early childhood education will also be considered. This position requires a 35-hour work week with evening and rotating Saturday assignments. Salary commensurate with experience. Includes generous vacation, pension, and health insurance benefits. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging programs for children from birth through 6th grade, including storytimes, STEM activities, crafts, book clubs, weekly events, and the Summer Reading Program. Develop, manage, and maintain the children s collection, through selection, evaluation, and regular weeding. Promote early literacy, creativity, and age-appropriate development, while encouraging meaningful family engagement in an inclusive environment. Provide reference and reader s advisory services; assist students with research and information-gathering skills. Assist patrons in locating youth materials, program information, and other library resources. Create reading lists, displays, and promotional materials. Set up, maintain, and clean program spaces, materials, and equipment. Build and sustain strong relationships with local schools through visits, book talks, class programs, and coordinated outreach to the Lyndhurst community. Create and maintain a vibrant, welcoming space that encourages family participation and connection. Represent the library at community events and support both in-house and outreach initiatives.
