    Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to investigate external claims of discrimination and determine if there is a potential violation of laws and ordinances regarding hate crimes and/or discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Assists with Open Records Request responses. Conducts initial interview with complainant to create preliminary investigation plan to determine jurisdiction, verify the incident, and collects evidentiary documentation. Assesses laws and ordinances regarding hate crimes and/or discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations, and other protected areas to determine if the presence of unlawful discrimination has occurred. Initiates steps to file discrimination complaints with local, state, and federal enforcement agencies, as appropriate. Evaluates client intakes and provides resource/referrals, as appropriate. Compiles information and follows up with potential clients as needed for complaint processing. Prepares correspondence and summary of allegations following federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations that is required by workshare agreements. Represents the department in outreach events. Participates in Employment and Fair Housing related trainings as mandated with the workshare agreements of the federal agencies. Provides general administrative support for the office by receiving, directing, and processing incoming calls, emails, and walk-in clients as required. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Associates degree in business or public administration, social science, law or related discipline. One (1) year of office administration, customer service, or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS None. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Recruits, trains and coordinates the activities of volunteers. Assists staff in planning and organizing regular, special, holiday, seasonal and private events, projects and programs. Participates in and emcee events. Coordinates with guest services and other staff concerning location reservation, setup of equipment, and operates a vehicle to pick up and deliver merchandise and supplies. Accesses the LeAP financial system to prepare purchase orders and to pay bills. Prepares purchase orders. Composes correspondence collates and mails sponsorship advertising and mass marketing materials. Inventories, orders and stores equipment, supplies and giveaway merchandise. Coordinates with marketing staff concerning design and production of bookmarks, handouts, flyers, pamphlets and leaflets of events. Organizes special events including, but not limited to, zoolympics, multicultural events, childrens activities, movie nights, races and other events and ensures that guests leave areas safely. Assists with recruitment of in-kind service contributions and donations to support events. Two (2) years of retail sales, customer service, marketing, fundraising, public relations, or development experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Must work a varied schedule. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
