    About LaAmistad:
    LaAmistad is a nonprofit organization in Atlanta dedicated to empowering Latino students, families, and communities through educational and life-enrichment programs. We believe in the power of community, education, and engagement to build brighter futures.

    Position: Community Outreach Intern
    LaAmistad is seeking a motivated and bilingual Community Outreach Intern to support our programs and community events. This role provides hands-on experience in nonprofit outreach, family engagement, and event coordination while working with a dedicated team that values collaboration, learning, and service.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Support the planning, coordination, and execution of community events and family engagement initiatives.Make phone calls to community members and program participants in both English and Spanish.Provide administrative support, including data entry, filing, and preparing outreach materials.Assist with communication and relationship-building efforts with families, volunteers, and community partners.Help staff with program operations and special projects as needed.Represent LaAmistad with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).Strong verbal and written communication skills.Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Flexible and open to working a varying schedule (approximately 10 hours per week), including occasional weekends with advance notice. Some tasks can be completed remotely.Enthusiasm for serving the Latino community and supporting LaAmistads mission.Comfortable and familiar with MS Office Suite as some work can be completed remotely.

    Internship Summary

    The ESL/Adult Education Intern supports LaAmistads English as a Second Language (ESL) Program for Latino adults. Interns contribute directly to a high-quality learning experience by supporting instruction, communication, engagement, and program logistics.

    This is a unique opportunity to build cultural competency, practice bilingual communication, and develop skills in adult education and nonprofit operations.


    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Classroom & Curriculum Support

    Observe ESL classes and report insights to the ESL Program CoordinatorAssist instructors and suggest improvements for classroom engagementHelp prepare classrooms with updated materials and supply kits


    Program Facilitation & Student Support

    Assist with new session logistics (student registration, placement exams, payments)Send bilingual confirmation emails with class details and book linksFollow up with students regarding attendance and withdrawals in SpanishCall students with incorrect contact information post-registration


    Language Exchange & Engagement

    Plan and facilitate bi-weekly Coffee Hour conversation sessionsCreate bilingual discussion prompts and guide volunteersBrainstorm ideas for bilingual events and engagement initiativesHelp maintain a student blog to encourage language use outside of class


    Administrative Support

    Draft and update bilingual email templatesEnter attendance and track student progress in ExcelAssist in preparing student certificates and teacher resourcesUpdate instructor pacing guides and keep materials organized in classroom Black BoxesHelp create and send reminder messages for early registrationReturn calls, track outreach, and communicate with students in SpanishTranslate documents and respond to language support requestsSend class confirmations and update program databasesSupport program events, workshops, and teacher training logistics


    Skills & Qualifications

    Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written)Strong Spanish writing and communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)Detail-oriented, organized, and proactiveFriendly, adaptable, and committed to serviceStrong multitasking and client service skillsComfortable working in person at LaAmistad sites in Atlanta


    Commitment

    Time:1520 hours/week (34 days/week)Term:AugustDecember 2025 (with option to extend into Spring 2026)
