This role exists to support the continued growth and operational performance of Karl Storz's precision machining operation.
The Machine Shop Supervisor plays a key role in leading production teams, maintaining workflow efficiency, supporting quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within a high-precision medical manufacturing environment.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands CNC machining, production flow, and how to build strong manufacturing teams.
The Work You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
Supervise machining department personnel and 2-4 Team Leads Coordinate production schedules, priorities, and workflow Support daily machining operations to ensure quality and on-time delivery Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management activities Monitor department KPIs and implement corrective actions when needed Support MRB processes and daily production reviews Troubleshoot downtime and escalate technical issues as required Lead Kaizen events and Lean manufacturing initiatives Develop and maintain standard work procedures Ensure compliance with ISO, FDA, and quality system requirements Promote a strong safety culture and enforce PPE/safety standards Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements

Machines: CNC screw machines and precision machining equipment
Manufacturing Environment: Medical device machining and assembly support
Production Systems: ERP and production scheduling systems
Lean Tools: Kaizen, continuous improvement, standard work, KPI management

Stainless Steel Medical-grade alloys Precision machined components used in surgical devices
What We're Looking ForRequired:
3-5+ years of supervisory experience in a machining environment Strong knowledge of CNC machining operations Experience with CNC setups, offsets, and program editing Strong leadership and employee development skills Ability to manage production priorities and workflow Hands-on mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability Strong communication and organizational skills Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiativesPreferred:
Bachelor's degree in a technical field Medical device or regulated manufacturing experience Experience leading Kaizen or Lean manufacturing projects ERP or production system experience

The Work You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
Develop machining processes and operation sheets from engineering data Implement new manufacturing methods, tooling, and equipment improvements Optimize processes for quality, efficiency, and cost reduction Design assembly tooling, jigs, fixtures, and production aids Lead cross-functional projects from concept through implementation Analyze manufacturing data and drive corrective actions with Quality teams Evaluate outside processes and vendors for performance and reliability Support capacity planning and equipment selection decisions Create clear documentation to support production and compliance Train personnel and provide daily technical support to production teams Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and GMP standards
