ROLE SUMMARYAre you a skilled accountant with a passion for operational integration? Client is seeking a Business Unit Controller for our Telecom business within Power Delivery – East Region Operations to join our dynamic team of creators and problem-solvers. As the Telecom Controller, you will serve as a strategic leader, responsible for overseeing and executing the financial operations within the business unit. This role involves leading a team of Financial Analysts/Coordinators and working closely with internal stakeholders to manage key responsibilities such as job setup, project accounting, billing, and ensuring strong operational and financial controls. In addition to providing leadership and direction to the team, you will partner across departments to assess business operations, identify process inefficiencies, and implement effective solutions. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this position operates in a matrixed environment alongside Operational Leadership, playing a critical role in shaping and driving the financial strategy for the Telecom business.
RESPONSIBILITIES· Lead, manage and oversee the daily operations of the job/project accounting function and team, including, but not limited to, revenue recognition, accruals, expense coding, billing, analytics, controls, and cost management· Develop, document and maintain business processes and accounting policies and procedures to strengthen and maintain an effective internal control environment and integrity of the books and records· Oversee the financial accounting close process, including revenue, cost of revenue, and operating expenses, in a timely and accurate manner· Manage audit (internal and external) inquiries and ensure timely and adequate responses are provided· Maintain compliance with government and organizational reporting requirements· Partner closely with FP&A to support data needs and analysis, including executive level reporting for performance monitoring· Provide consistent and reliable data for ongoing forecasting and planning, including P&L and cash flow· Perform ad hoc analysis to understand variances in financial and operational drivers· Identify financial and operational opportunities and work across functions to drive improvement· Lead business transformation efforts in conjunction with strategic priorities – ERP implementation, restructuring· Build/maintain relationships with Segment/Corporate teams, internal and external auditors, key financial vendors, and customers· Actively manage, mentor and coach team members; inspire and encourage continued growth and development
QUALIFICATIONS· BS in Finance, Accounting or Project Management; MBA, MS and/or CPA preferred· Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, accounting processes, internal controls, and accounting/ERP systems· 6-8 years of progressive finance or project management experience, with some experience supporting a field-service based business; energy/construction industry experience preferred· Ability to accurately and efficiently close books, report timely results and explain variances· Strong collaboration skills with the ability to communicate vision and gain alignment with senior leaders· Ability to influence, adapt and lead through change and ambiguity in a dynamic growth environment· Problem solver adept at envisioning, implementing and building consensus around optimal solutions· Highly organized and detail oriented; able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously; excellent project management and time management skills, with a focus on delivering results on time, on budget, and on goal· Strong oral and written communication, presentation and facilitation skills· Ability to inspire/lead change; track record of building strong teams
