    Assistant Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor

    Summary

    The Assistant Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor works under the Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor providing support for the organization of the program and implementation of game and practice plans. This includes, but is not limited to communication with athletes, preparation of facilities, distribution and care of equipment, scouting opponents, and film breakdown. The Assistant will assist in providing support for the player's academic success, and track academic progress as needed. The Assistant may facilitate communication with a number of constituents which include faculty, academic advisors, assistant deans, and parents. Internally, the Assistants work with the Equipment and Facilities staff, Athletic Trainers, and Assistant ADs when necessary.

    The Assistant Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor will respond to the Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor directives and will be responsible for providing coaching instruction and administrative support to other coaches and administrative staff while ensuring compliance with all related governing bodies including the NCAA, OAC, and institutional regulations. The Assistant will also have designated responsibilities with the recruitment of prospective student athletes.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • The Assistant Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor will help facilitate practice time to include such responsibilities as implementing drills and game plans into practices, offering input for game strategies, and provide advice for specific plays or game tactics. The Assistant will assist players in the learning process, and track of players' punctuality and participation in practices when needed.
    • Assist the lead instructor and coordinator in elements of practices and games to include preparation, effective execution of drills, one-on-one development work with athletes as warranted, and fulfillment of game day responsibilities.
    • Assist the Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor with the development of strategies for a successful program including well-organized practice plans and participation in the development and execution of game strategies.
    • Assist with the monitoring of academic progress and meet with individual student-athletes to ensure academic success and compliance with university and NCAA academic standards.
    • Mentor student-athletes as to proper conduct and decorum.
    • Comply with the Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructors' philosophy and assist with communicated this philosophy with all stakeholders.
    • Assist with the evaluation and recruitment of prospective student-athletes, and the tracking of them through the SLATE system.
    • Help coordinate official visit itineraries for prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA requirements.
    • Assist in the development of community outreach programs, and promotional activities in collaboration with internal staff, and assist in approved fundraising activity as designated by the head coach.
    • Represent department and institution to internal and external constituents.
    • Help coordinate all administrative requirements for the team including travel arrangements and itineraries; equipment and uniform purchases.
    • Work in conjunction with the Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor and the Strength and Conditioning Instructor to design and implement targeted development and training programs appropriate to the specific needs of athletes and teams.
    • Attend rules education, sessions and complete necessary forms for compliance upon request.
    • Follow proper procedures for purchasing and resource allocation and monitor spending.
    • Supervise coaches within the program as assigned.
    • Assist in the coordination of team player tryouts and selection.
    • Attend athletic department meetings and collaborate with the Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor and Athletic Director / Assistant Athletic Directors on schedules, programs and engagement.
    • Participate in pre-season and post-season meetings and programs as appropriate.
    • Assist to develop and provide instructor-led rules training to team, athletic department and others upon request.
    • Responsible for positive public relations and communications with constituents.
    • Support Head Women's Basketball Coaching Instructor's decisions.
    • Work closely with athletic trainers and follow injury protocol.
    • Responsible for adhering to a system of budget management and accountability.
    • Follow all University and NCAA policies and regulations.
    • Meet all deadlines for paperwork (i.e. rosters, physicals, officials' ratings).
    • Exhibit enthusiasm towards athletes and display respect for the entire program (i.e. officials, opponents, parents, schools, property, equipment).
    • Dress appropriately and professionally for games, practices, recruit family visits and other school and athletic functions.
    • Foster school spirit by promoting other sports.
    • Maintain fair, consistent, and appropriate relationships with student athletes.
    • Maintain composure and exemplary conduct during practice and games.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
    • Minimum of one (1) year of collegiate coaching experience or two (2) years successful coaching experience as head or assistant coach at the high school level or equivalent experience.
    • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain certifications in CPR and AED.
    • Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently
    • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies.
    • Must understand and comply with NCAA, conference, and University rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • An interest and appreciation for the Jesuit Catholic tradition and the mission of John Carroll University.

    Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions

    Extensive travel involved. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. However this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on the nature of competitive and recruiting schedules.

    Summary

    Working under the supervision of the dean with the oversight of one or more department chairs and/or program directors, the Administrative Assistant provides all administrative and clerical support for the Nursing and Pre-Health academic departments in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Greet visitors and answer departmental telephone. Assist with all departmental and program communications with students and other stakeholders promptly and efficiently.Serve as primary contact for department with various internal university offices.Coordinate administrative and clerical requests, including: part time faculty contracts and other forms, office assignments, key requests, syllabi, emergency contact lists, faculty schedules and conferences/travel plans.Support department chair and program director with administrative and clerical requests, meetings, reports, job searches, scholarships and awards, class schedules, staffing, textbook orders, etc.Oversee department purchases and reconcile department P-Card monthly.Supervise undergraduate work study students for the department.     Summary

    Guided by the University's mission, vision, core values and strategic plan, and the University Police Department's (JCUPD) mission and values, the primary function of the JCUPD is to provide for the safety, security, and well-being of John Carroll University (JCU) students, staff and faculty, and the broader JCU Community. The foremost responsibility of the Police Officer is to provide response, services and expertise in support of these functions.

    The nature of the Police Officer's position requires that they, in normal daily functioning, act independently in regard to decision-making, given general direction and guidance from the JCUPD Mission, and the University Mission and Learning Goals. More specific direction and guidance is provided by JCUPD Operations Manual, and the shift Corporal and Sergeant. The Police Officer will interact with both internal constituents (students, faculty, staff and contractors) as well as external constituents (parents, neighbors, merchants, governmental agencies and others). These interactions may have significant implications for the operation of the Department, the Division and the University.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Uphold and enforce the laws and ordinances of the United States, the State of Ohio, and the City of University Heights, and the policies of John Carroll University.Respond to emergencies; which may include criminal, medical, fire, and other emergencies on campus or affecting the JCU community.Investigate crimes, student conduct violations, Title IX violations and other matters as directed, in an equitable and non-judgmental manner, utilizing a fair and impartial process for all parties.Produce reports which are clear, concise, complete, and correct.Conduct proactive campus patrol, employing a community policing approach. This includes engagement with members of campus constituencies by positive interactions and an active, high-visibility presence.Address suspicious activity in an unbiased and safe manner.Ensure the physical security of JCU property. Identify potential hazards, and act to remedy them.Provide support to campus activities in planning and execution of event security, parking and transportation.Enforce campus parking and traffic rules.Ensure the smooth operation of the gate attendant, shuttle and JCUMES functions, providing guidance and support as needed.Provide services to the campus community, such as lost and found, room lockout, vehicle jumpstarts/lock-outs, fingerprinting, after hours physical plant troubleshooting, and other services as appropriate.Assist with CCTV and alarm monitoring as needed.
    Required Qualifications
    Current, valid certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council as a sworn peace officer.Must be legally qualified to own and carry a firearm in the State of Ohio.Must not have been convicted in a court of law of crimes of violence, or any other offense which has as an element "the use or attempted use of any physical force or threatened use of a deadly weapon towards those persons that are generally covered by those statutes as related to family members."Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and a good driving record.     This position works in-person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio.Expected to work primarily second shift, including weekends and holidays. Generally works 40 hours per week.
