J. C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center is a federally qualified community health center which exists to provide patient-centered primary health care services to the medically underserved residents of the greater Savannah-Chatham County, Georgia community. The Health Center makes comprehensive primary care, integrated behavioral health care, oral health care, and inpatient respite care services available to all persons, including the homeless and low-income uninsured and underinsured, regardless of ability to pay. Position Summary:
The Medical Coder functions as an active member of the agency team, by maintaining appropriate billing systems for the operations of the facility in accordance with established standards. The Medical Coder is detail-oriented and organized. In this position, you will play a key role in reviewing and analyzing medical billing and coding for processing. You will review and accurately code office procedures for reimbursement. Responsibilities may also include researching and resolving client insurance claims which are denied or uncollected and also working with the clinical team to resolve billing problems.
Qualifications:
High school degree or equivalentMedical Coding Certificate; RHIT or CPC by AAPC or AHIMA license; meet state licensure requirements (preferred)Maintain coding certification and attends in-service training as requiredMust have Two (2) years of Medical Coding experienceMust have One (1) year Billing experienceUnderstanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiologyAbility to work independently or as an active member of a teamStrong computer skills in data entry, coding, and knowledge of Electronic Medical Record software; Microsoft Office SuiteAccurate and precise attention to detailAbility to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficientlyExcellent verbal and written communication skillsGoal-oriented, organized team player
Responsibilities:
Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracyEnsure that all codes are current and activeReport missing or incomplete documentationMeet daily coding productionUpdate and maintain document listsPerforms accurate charge entriesEnsure proper coding on provider documentationServes as a resource regarding insurance resolutions and coding questionsHandles co-pays, balances, and charge postingfollows coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state regulationsPerforms additional duties assigned by the coding manager as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain any certifications, to include the procurement of appropriate continuing education.Participate in agency meetings, in-service trainings and workshops as deemed appropriate.All other duties as assigned.
Medical Coder/Medical Biller is a plus
