    Visiting Instructor, Art Foundations

    Jacksonville State University is seeking applicants for a Visiting Instructor of Art Foundations. The Visiting Instructor of Art Foundations in the Department of Art and Design is a temporary, non-tenure-track position that provides educational support to freshman and sophomore art students pursuing BFA and BA degree paths. Responsibilities include serving as the Foundations Area Coordinator for the Department of Art and Design and teaching a 4/3 course load, including Drawing, Design, Digital Literacy, and Portfolio Review.

    The Department of Art + Design at Jacksonville State University, is accredited by NASAD, and offers an MFA in Visual Communication Design and BA and BFA degrees in Studio Art and Art History with concentrations in Ceramics, Illustration, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, and Printmaking. The department also offers minors in Studio Art, Photography, and Art History.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    Knowledge of critical issues in higher education as they relate to the freshman experience and student retention. Strong drawing and design skills; ability to teach foundational studio practices and prepare students for advanced work in their concentration areas. Ability to coordinate the efforts of Graduate Teaching Assistants and full- and part-time instructors to deliver engaging and supportive learning experiences.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    This position requires an MFA from a regionally accredited institution.

    Assistant Professor, Music Theory

    The David L. Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in music theory beginning August 2025. The primary duties of the successful candidate will be to teach courses in the core undergraduate Music Theory curriculum. The Department welcomes applications from candidates qualified to teach in the Western classical canon. Other teaching areas may include non-Western music and/or popular or commercial music. The successful candidate will accomplish scholarly/creative activity sufficient for tenure and advancement and engage in appropriate service.

    Position Requirements

    The successful candidate must have a doctorate in music theory or a related field. ABD will be considered, with the expectation that the degree will be completed on or before August 1, 2025. The selected candidate must also possess a strong record of creative activity and/or scholarly accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment. Demonstrated excellence and achievement in musicianship and performance skills are also required.

    Job Summary:

    The Film Internship offers a unique opportunity for qualified students to blend academic knowledge with hands-on professional filmmaking-experience. As a Film Intern, you will have the chance to apply the skills, attitudes, and techniques learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios, including actual films that will air on Alabama Public Television. This position is designed to provide valuable experiential learning opportunities, allowing interns to gain firsthand knowledge of the film industry, participate in professional activities, create meaningful professional relationships, and cultivate potential career connections.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist film production staff in developing relevant stories for television, film, online streaming and other platforms.
    • Research topics using a variety of sources, including video archives, the internet, library archives and others as needed.
    • Communicate with writers, directors, managers and other members of staff to ensure a smooth running of the project.
    • Support staff by taking detailed notes during meetings, summarizing notes in digital format, and performing other tasks as required.
    • Produce and edit video content that adhere to guidelines and standards to share on online channels, including social media and YouTube.
    • Provide assistance as needed in all components of the production, including sound, lighting, camera, editing and postproduction.
    • Perform other duties as requested by staff to ensure all necessary tasks are performed in a proficient manner that adheres to the quality expected from the production company.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    • Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below. )
    • If not a first-time student, the applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
    • Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJSU.

    Job Summary:

    The Temporary Child Development Center Assistant will obtain work experience on campus in the JSU Child Development Center. Duties may include assisting staff with preparation for classroom instruction, departmental operational needs, or performing administrative and other support duties as required. The Temporary Child Development Center Assistant will assist with creating and developing lesson material, games and manipulatives for the preschool class. In addition, the Temporary Child Development Center Assistant will work with individual and small groups of children to develop their emerging pre-reading and pre-math skills, self-help skills and social skills. Positions may be filled based on individual applicants' skills, qualification and departmental needs. Work hours will take place between 7:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. based upon availability of the Temporary Assistant.

    The Department of Criminal Justice & Forensic Investigation invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice & Forensic Investigation. The position is for teaching undergraduate and graduate Criminal Justice and/or Forensic Investigation courses, based on applicant qualifications, and requires teaching competencies in the various fields of criminal justice or forensic investigation. Courses are offered through various delivery formats including face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and 100% on-line. While teaching will be the successful candidate's primary responsibility, student mentoring, service to the institution and community, and scholarship within the discipline are also required. This tenure-track position entails approximately 9 months of full-time service beginning August 2025.

    About the Department

    The Department of Criminal Justice & Forensic Investigation, housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is one of the largest on campus with over 600 students. We currently offer a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Investigation, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, and a criminal justice concentration in the Master of Public Administration degree program. We also incorporate four cutting-edge research, practice, and training centers: 1. The Center for Applied Forensics (CFAF), 2. The Center for Best Practices in Law Enforcement (CBPLE), 3. The Southeastern Command College, and 4. The Alabama Investigator Academy.

    Position Requirements

    Required Qualifications

    • All applicants must have an earned doctorate in Criminal Justice or a master's degree in forensic investigation. A Juris Doctorate alone does not qualify for this position.
    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in law enforcement with a minimum of 3 years in an investigative capacity.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Investigative work in either the division of homicide, vice, narcotics, or digital forensics.
    • Prior teaching at the undergraduate level.
    • Prior teaching at the graduate level.
    • Prior teaching 100% on-line at either the undergraduate or graduate level using the Canvas platform.
