The Insurance Verification specialist preforms thorough and accurate insurance verifications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Obtain and verify patient insurance benefits coverage by use of insurance websites or by reaching out to insurance carriers prior to patient appointment / procedure. Provide an explanation of potential financial obligations to the patient.Enter / update all patient and insurance information into EMR system accurately to ensure proper billing.Review system so verifications are accurate and completed prior to patient appointment.Review documentation obtained by Front Desk for scheduled, walk-in and emergency appointment patients.Provide daily updates to Manager on patient verification status.Ensure that verification updates are entered daily into practice management system.Communicate with other staff members about any patient concerns and/or issues related to verifications.Contact patients to go over insurance benefits and possible patient responsibility.Cross train, back up Front DeskOther duties as assigned.Position Requirements
Prior medical office experience. Minimum 3 years’ experience with insurance and referrals.Strong knowledge and understanding of Medicare, Managed Care, HMO/PPO plans and Authorization/Referral requirements.Excellent customer service and communication skills.Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast paced environment. The Medical Assistant/Scribe assists physicians with patient care, administrative tasks and certain clinical duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with orthopedic physicians and physician assistants to coordinate the care and needs of patients.Assist with clerical duties such as completing forms and charting.Check physician schedules and prepare charts for needed test results.Organize patient flow to keep physician on schedule.Assist patients to exam room, collect patient history, and conduct screening per physician guidelines.Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.Assist providers with appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation in the EHR, allowing them to spend more face-to-face time with the patient.Accurately document the events and decision-making in a manner that results in appropriate medical charting.Scribes also complete clerical activities necessary to assist with processing of physician orders for tests and medications, as well as gathering necessary information such as labs, radiology reports etc.Answer patient phone calls and give instructions at the direction of the physician.Document phone calls and prescription refills.Maintain clean exam rooms and instruments following infection control guidelines.Follow bio-hazardous waste standards.Restock exam rooms and maintain medical supplies.Follow universal precautions when assisting with patient care.Maintain strictest confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.Clerical and computer duties are required to complete forms and charting.Position Requirements
Valid Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA).Valid CPR certification.High School Diploma or GED required.Minimum 1-2 years Medical Assistant experience.Orthopaedic experience a plus.Proficiency with triaging patient care issues.Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced clinic.Knowledge of HIPAA and safety guidelines/regulations.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Computer and typing proficiency a must.Working Conditions
