Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out the established procedures for follow up and collection of assigned accounts.Conduct patient financial interviews to assist with the resolution of the patient’s account, and to ensure compliance with JOI’s financial resolution policies.Advise and counsel patients and guarantors as to rights, responsibilities and procedures with regards to payment for care.Work with patients to identify the most appropriate account resolution; assist with making payment plans if applicable.Review aging of assigned accounts and maintain current notes regarding payment status.Act as a liaison for patients and the billing department.Operate computerized patient account system to enter and update data as needed.Maintain strictest confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.Has knowledge of and adheres to all compliance regulations, policies and procedures.Perform related job duties as required to support the medical office.
Position Requirements
Demonstrated experience in medical billing/collections and/or patient financial counseling.Familiarity with CPT-4 and ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding, Commercial, HMO, and Medicare insurance billing.Willingness to actively pursue payment from patients and third-party payers.Must have 2 years of experience with patient financial counseling and face-to-face collections.Must have experience working with medical insurance.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and other staff members.Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor.Must be well organized and detail oriented.Computer proficiency.Medical coding experience is a plus.High School Diploma or GED required.
