They should be comfortable mounting heavier network equipment , reading cutsheets and port maps without constant supervision, and handling fiber correctly, especially MPO and LC connections. They need to understand bend radius, polarity basics, structured labeling, and how to troubleshoot a mispatch quickly.
They should also be confident validating links, checking link lights, confirming correct ports, tracing cables, and correcting mistakes without escalating everything to the lead. This role requires awareness of how network builds are structured, not just plugging cables.
