Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance, repair, and safety of the company’s school bus fleet and related equipment. This role ensures all buses meet federal, state, and local safety regulations while maintaining reliable vehicle performance. The Maintenance Manager supervises technicians, manages maintenance schedules, controls inventory, and works closely with operations staff to keep buses road-ready for daily routes.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily maintenance and repair operations for the company’s school bus fleet.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure vehicle safety and reliability.
Ensure all vehicles comply with DOT, state inspection, and school transportation safety regulations.
Supervise, train, and schedule maintenance technicians and shop staff.
Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues when needed.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and service documentation.
Manage parts inventory and order necessary supplies and equipment.
Coordinate vehicle inspections, licensing, and regulatory compliance.
Monitor maintenance costs and develop strategies to control expenses.
Work with dispatch and operations teams to minimize downtime and ensure route coverage.
Enforce workplace safety procedures and maintain a safe shop environment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred.
5+ years of fleet maintenance experience, preferably with buses, trucks, or heavy vehicles.
2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance.
Familiarity with DOT regulations and school transportation safety standards.
Valid driver’s license
