    Role Summary

    As a Trauma Registrar at Howard University Hospital, you will be the data backbone of our Level 1 Trauma Center — collecting, abstracting, coding, and reporting the high-quality registry data that drives trauma performance improvement, regulatory compliance, and better outcomes for the injured patients we serve. Reporting to the Trauma Nurse Supervisor, you will work closely with the trauma program, clinical teams, and quality leadership to ensure our registry is accurate, complete, and submission-ready for state and national reporting.

    What You’ll Do

    Collect and abstract disease-specific trauma data — uniform data elements describing the injury event, demographics, pre-hospital information, diagnosis, care, outcomes, and costs of treatment for injured patientsAbstract physiological and anatomical data from the electronic health record in accordance with registry definitions, ensuring high-quality data is entered into the Trauma Registry for analysisPerform ICD-10-CM coding and Injury Severity Scoring (AIS) for trauma patient recordsSupport the Trauma Division’s performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program by running reports that review care provided and identify variations in processes and outcomes across patient groupsCollect and maintain statistical data for the hospital’s trauma services; generate standard and custom reports in a timely fashionRepresent the trauma service at multidisciplinary Trauma Service meetings and survey activitiesEvaluate and recommend trauma registry software and tools; ensure new software is compatible with existing systems and that data operating protocols are accommodatedOrient division personnel on the use of trauma service computer software, including system commands and procedures to obtain trauma service informationParticipate in the establishment and implementation of the trauma services budgetInvestigate incidents or problems relating to the trauma registry; assess daily admissions to ensure proper patient identification and initiation of trauma protocolsMaintain strict confidentiality and data-security standards for all patient information

    Required Qualifications

    Completion of the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registrar Course, or an equivalent provided by a state trauma programTwo (2) years of experience in data entry, emergency, trauma, or critical care settingsCertification by the American Trauma Society’s Registrar Certification Board as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) or Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) — required, or must be obtained within six (6) months of employmentProficiency in ICD-10-CM coding and Injury Severity Scoring (AIS) for trauma patient recordsKnowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology sufficient to interpret physician, radiology, and operative documentationProficiency in trauma registry software and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)Strong attention to detail, analytical, and data-validation/quality-assurance skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills

    The Procedure Support Technician assists with the quick and efficient set-up and turnover of cases in each surgical suite by cleaning the operating rooms and equipment, and interacts with clinical nurses, operating room technicians and physicians to expedite the set-up and turnover of surgical cases.

    The Procedure Support Technician:

    Assists with the quick and efficient set-up and turnover of cases in each surgical suite as outlined in departmental procedures. Cleans all surgical equipment before and after each surgical case or before bringing into OR. Assembles equipment daily to clean rooms and remove trash, preparing mops and wet vac cleaning solutions.Bags and removes trash from each operating room and places trash on transport cart. Transports trash to incinerator. Remove soiled linen from each operating room and places them on transport cart. Washes operating room table, buckets, walls and other furniture and performs appropriate floor care after each procedure. Ensures OR beds are cleaned and linen replaced. Wipes surgical lights as needed. Takes transport cart to designated area, removes trash, linen and instruments and returns to respective areas. Checks scrub areas frequently for general cleanliness and removes excess water from floors. Transports patients to and from OR, holding area and various diagnostic and therapeutic areas. Assist in transportation of equipment and supplies to and from rooms and ensures proper handling and storage. Cleans gas rooms daily or as needed. Ensures adequate supplies in supply room, keeping the supply room neat. Restocks supplies in assigned rooms. Prepares stretchers for patient transport. Helps patients into and out of wheelchairs and onto stretchers. Assists with patient transfer to and from the operating table. Assists in positioning patients and hold limbs for surgical prep as directed. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.     The Nuclear Medicine Technologist - PRN Weekends Required - Pay: $65.00/hour

    Under supervision of the Radiology Manager and the direct guidance of the Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist, this position performs diagnostic Nuclear Medicine examinations to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care to include: injection of radiopharmaceutical, protocol setup, patient positioning, processing, and network image transfers.
    Responsibilities:

    Administers radioactive pharmaceuticals to patients and then monitors the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which they localize. Utilizes nuclear medicine equipment and protocols to produce radiographic studies and clinically diagnostic information to assist interpretive physician.Demonstrates use of proper positioning to produce quality nuclear medicine studies. Positions and transfers patients to scanning room, providing immobilization devices when required. Determines appropriate isotope required. Obtains patient history and reviews patient condition.Maintains adequate records of receipt, use, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials in accordance with state and federal guidelines; maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including, provisions for the contamination-free condition of rooms, equipment and personnel; secures and returns supplies; reports, documents and manages spills in accordance with regulatory and hospital guidelines.Addresses patient concerns during the procedure and explain the process to the patient to provide comfort, ensure their safety, and guarantee they are receiving the best care possible. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Schedules patients for nuclear medicine studies.Assists in the development of techniques for procedures as needed; may assist in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely employed.Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.     Requirements:
    Education: Graduate of a certified/accredited ARRT program required.
    Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in Nuclear Medicine
