    Guest Service Attendant The Guest Service Attendant (GSA) works with large groups of students, teachers, and chaperones to ensure safe and organized admission onto zoo grounds. Guest Service Attendants assist Zoo Rangers with guests on grounds, giraffe feeding entrance and platform in addition to assisting with special events. During seasonal hours of operation, Guest Service Attendants monitor the Water Play area to ensure guest safety and service and inform them of Water Play area rules. Job Duties and Responsibilities Maintains guest, staff and resident health, safety and security service as a priority Contributes to saving animals in the wild through: reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions Guest Service Attendant Ensures zoo guests and visitors receive positive and impactful guest experiences by applying top quality customer service standards and zoo principles Provides exceptional internal and external guest service per established guidelines. Greets and assists guests in a friendly and positive manner providing information regarding zoo events, rules, directions and amenities Seeks opportunities to engage guests by providing messaging/stories/experiences of how the zoo is actively saving animals in the wild Organizes school groups in public parking bus drop off location and assists with entrance to the zoo in an orderly fashion; assists in organizing school groups as they exit the zoo Explains check-in procedures and zoo rules to all students, teachers and chaperones Assists in setting up and breaking down of parking lot equipment Assists in directing buses with parking/unloading procedures Assists Ranger team members with monitoring group adherence to zoo rules while on zoo grounds Monitors water play area and ensures safety rules are followed Reports unsafe conditions or safety concerns to Ranger Supervisor Assists Ranger team members with minor first aids Understands and is knowledgeable of departmental manual, emergency plans, emergency phone numbers and protocols Assists with lost child procedures, giraffe feeding, and guest service while on zoo grounds Monitors the zoo's traveling exhibit area Communicates professionally and appropriately with Rangers and other zoo staff over handheld radio; responds timely to radio requests Assists with special events as required Performs other duties as assigned Education and Experience High school diploma, general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training Experienced with guest/customer relations; ability to respond appropriately to safety concerns and guest complaints About Houston Zoo The Houston Zoo is made up of many moving parts with over 6,000 permanent residents (our animals) for whom we provide housing, meals, medical care and, yes, even education!     Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Conduct regular evaluations of tree health, identifying pests, diseases, and other issues that may affect tree vitality. Lead implementation of best arboriculture practices, including pruning, fertilization, integrated pest management, and herbicide application to promote tree longevity. Safely operate specialized equipment such as chainsaws, pole saws, and aerial lifts, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and maintenance standards. Lead weekly Zoo-wide tree risk assessments, prioritizing tasks that minimize hazards and enhance safety for staff and visitors. Lead efforts on tree work and clean up, in emergency situations Train and mentor team members in safe operating procedures for tree maintenance equipment, including climbing techniques and equipment upkeep. Maintain detailed records of tree inventory, maintenance activities, and safety protocols, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Work with external contractors performing tree work, ensuring their compliance with Zoo standards and safety regulations. Assist the Horticulture Manager in tracking expenses related to arboriculture activities and contribute to the development of the annual arboriculture budget. Monitor tree-zoned irrigation systems, ensuring they are functioning properly and addressing any issues with the irrigation maintenance team. Safely utilize specialized equipment such as large trailers, skid steer, backhoe, fork and bucket lifts, chainsaws, pole saws, and stump grinder Engage with Zoo guests in a friendly and professional manner, providing information about tree care and Zoo initiatives. Enforce Zoo safety policies and procedures, ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) among team members, this includes ensuring safety during daily practices such as climbing, rigging, and using a bucket lift Support the Horticulture Department with various landscape maintenance projects such as new tree installation and establishment and vegetation removal Perform various manual labor tasks, including climbing, rigging lifting, and operating equipment throughout the workday. Contributes to saving animals in the wild through reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions. Contributes to other operational priorities as needed.

     

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. ISA Arboriculture certification Certified Tree Climber Required 4-year minimum related work experience in arboriculture and tree work

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Performs accurate and timely medical data entry including but not limited to laboratory results, anesthetic events, consultant reports, contraception details, and vaccine information. Responsible for inventory management including inventory checks, purchasing, receiving and distribution of orders, expired drugs and dry goods upkeep and compliance, and backordered item tracking; must develop a strong working knowledge of the Zoo's purchasing system and policies. Assures timely invoice payment through invoice review, accurate coding, and itemization from vendors, external labs, and specialists. Coordinates with the accounting department for services rendered.
