    As an Outside Plant Construction – Laborer, you will utilize your skills to:

    Work in outdoor utility construction sites.Be part of a crew that supports all phases of outside plant construction for various fiber-to-the-home projects.Excavate, trench, and install fiber optic cable and all other necessary facilities.Dig trenches/holes with a shovel.Gather and store tools, maintain equipment and safe work zone.Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the field.Learn and train to use various kinds of tools and equipment.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    Manage deployment of our network over multiple worksites within a designated region.Review proposed construction plans and schematic drawings to ensure that proposals are feasible, can be done in the time allotted and adhere to company specifications.Supervise and inspect our outside plant construction contractor(s), while keeping an up-to-date report of outstanding items that need to be fixed or remediated.Coordinate daily with Field Supervisors of contractors to ensure day to day operations are flowing smoothly according to construction plan, and to mitigate any potential construction delays.Help define and maintain standards for the construction management team using quality standards and Company requirements to implement projects in a manner that introduces economies of repetition, and meets financial expectations established at project start.Adhere to the prioritization and budget of construction projects to achieve the Company’s objectives.Support Director of Construction to help settle disputes between the Company and the Contractor/Supplier to settle project-related contractual issues.Act as customer representative to help resolve damages and restoration issues from outside plant construction activities between the Company or Contractor and the customer.Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Skills & Abilities:

    Ability to effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, and vendors.Strong reporting skills and ability to manage and present communications to the management team.Ability to use appropriate computer programs (including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, GIS based applications) which includes having proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.Ability to work together as part of a team and help one another grow.Ability to appropriately prioritize and manage multiple requests at once.Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches.Ability to work a flexible work schedule, as needed, to best serve our customers.

    Qualifications & Competencies:

    3+ years working on various FTTP/FTTH (Fiber to the Home architectures) projects with focus on time, budget, and quality.Knowledge of underground and aerial fiber plant design and construction.Thorough knowledge of project management, asset management, and network construction in Utility easements, Public or Private rights-of-way, both underground and aerial permitting, including make ready.Thorough understanding of NESC codes related to construction of underground and overhead communication lines.Thorough understanding of safety practices and regulations regarding working in the road right-of-way or easement.

    Physical Requirements:

    Prolonged periods sitting at a desk or in a vehicle.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings (Drug and Background).Must have a valid Driver’s License.

    Essential Duties:

    Performs engineering activities associated with the design of fiber networks in conjunction with meeting project timelines.Prepares detailed construction and installation drawings and estimates equipment, labor, and material costs.Works closely with purchasing clerk on inventory control.Makes job safety a priority in all duties.Maintains accurate and complete documentation of equipment, systems and related facilities.Provides work order estimates that are within 10% of the actual cost.Inspection of work orders, verification of staking sheets and As-Builts.Interacts with employees and other departments, attends and participates in inter-departmental planning meetings to coordinate and communicate activities related to the successful completion of projects.Engineers and prepares work order documentation and Method of Procedure (MOP) for completion of projects associated with areas of responsibility.Reviews and makes recommendations to supervisory personnel for new and improved engineering practices and technology.Assists in the preparation of short term and long-range planning documents, including projections of growth and demand for existing and new services.Trains company employees as requested on topics related to job functions.Comply with all policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned by the Company.

This position will work at our outdoor construction sites locating utilities, splicing fiber, and troubleshooting the network. The position will be located in and around the Escanaba, MI area.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Connect end-to-end fiber optic networks.Test and troubleshoot continuity of fiber optic networks.Operate all testing equipment and be adept at resolving common challenges to fiber optic networks.Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures such as CommScope, Corning, Channell, etc.Utilize fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310nm, 1550nm, DWDM, CWDM, Power Meter.Fiber engineering knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels and dB loss.Work in outdoor utility construction sites.

    Competencies:

    Willingness to learn, adhere to, and comply with Highline safety standards.2-3 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience.Comfortable working on elevated surfaces such as but not limited to: ladder, bucket truck, roof etc.Demonstrated track record of completing work with a high level of quality.Ability to solve difficult technical problems. Thrives in a hands-on, manual labor work environment.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Operate a combination of horizontal directional bore, ride-on plow, and mini excavator in collaboration with the locator to successfully install fiber optic systems.Read and understand utilitylocatesand above ground utility indicators to ensure the safety of the crew anda high levelof productivity.Read and understand construction prints and drawings to ensure proper installation of fiber optic network with regards topermittingstandards and quality.Understand and adhere to safe work zone practices within public or private rights-of-way,in accordance withNESC code, 811 guidelines, and all permitting entities.Transport heavy equipment to and from the job site each dayTroubleshootproblems as theyarise in the field.Other duties as assigned. 

    Competencies:
