    MRI Technologist To provide highest quality health care services in a professional and Resonance Imagining (MRI) and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images. Essential Responsibilities: 1. Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures. a. Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. b. Prepares patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. c. Selects and operates Magnetic Resonance Imager, equipment and accessories, and determines factors for scanning parameters. d. Selects appropriate program for the desired protocol as specified by the Radiologist. e. Immobilizes patient as required for appropriate examination. f. Applies principles of magnet related protection to minimize hazards to patient, self, and others. g. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. h. Verifies documentation for and assists a licensed physician practitioner with procedures. i. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. j. Understands methods and is capable of performing venipunctures. k. Prepares, operates, and cares for equipment and other technical instruments used for administration of contrast agents, patient monitoring, and to insure safety within the area. l. Prepares, identifies, and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. m. Evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, and provides hard copy records assuring proper identification is recorded. n. Initiates basic life support actions when necessary. o. Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures when necessary. 2. Provides patient education by describing tests and procedures to patients, family members, or other responsible parties. 3. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunction. This includes appearance and cleanliness of area and restocking of area supplies. 4. Provides input for supply decisions. 5. Provides practical instruction for students and/or other health care professionals. 6. Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties in the specialty area. 7. Complies with minimum standards as noted on the cover page of job description. 8. Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques utilized for procedures in the MRI area. 9. Maintains appropriate knowledge to recognize anatomical structures via computer-generated system. 10. Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped with regard to the patient's age and diagnosis. 11. Record patient histories, indications and all other pertinent information in the Notes section of Synapse. 12. Creates and/or releases imaging viewing media to other institutions, patients or nursing units upon properly authorized request This position may include the requirement to participate in on-call duties in order to provide technical support during hours other than the regularly scheduled shifts. Hours and days of on-call coverage may vary according to changes in staffing situations and need. Current payroll policies and other hospital and departmental policies will be observed during the on-call and call-in hours.
