Hines Building Maintenance (HBM) is looking for a School Safety Monitor to join our team at an independent private school. We're looking for someone with excellent customer service, professionalism, and communication to ensure a safe campus.
You'll be one of the first people students, families, staff, and visitors see each day, helping create a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for everyone on campus.
The regular schedule is 2pm to 10:30pm Mon to Fri, with some required overtime during school events.
What You'll Do
As a School Safety Monitor, you'll:
• Welcome and assist students, visitors, and staff with a friendly, professional attitude.
• Monitor campus activity and help maintain a safe, secure environment.
• Ensure visitor check-in procedures and campus safety protocols are followed.
• Support student drop-off and pick-up activities.
• Use sound judgment to identify and address safety concerns before they become problems.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with school staff and visitors.
• Contact emergency services or appropriate personnel when necessary.
• Help with school events, including setup and breakdown.
• During school breaks and closed-campus days, assist the Facilities team with campus cleaning and improvement projects.

Qualifications Required

HBM is looking for a reliable individual with experience in light maintenance or janitorial. Someone who is willing to learn to support various areas of a school campus.
The Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment throughout the school day. This position performs routine janitorial services, supports campus operations, assists with events, completes light maintenance tasks, and responds to the daily needs of the school community.
The regular schedule is 1pm to 930pm Monday to Friday with occasional weekend shifts required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of all assigned campus buildings and outdoor areas throughout the workday.
• Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, conference rooms, common areas, hallways, and other common areas.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners as needed.
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and spot clean floors, carpets, furniture, windows, and other surfaces.
• Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and emergency cleaning requests to ensure a safe campus.
• Perform basic groundskeeping duties, including:
o Picking up litter and debris around campus.
o Sweeping walkways and entrances.
o Emptying outdoor trash receptacles.
o Assisting with light landscaping tasks, such as pulling weeds and sweeping outdoor areas.
• Set up and break down tables, chairs, staging, tents, and equipment for school events, meetings, assemblies, and special functions.
• Provide event support before, during, and after events, including cleaning, trash removal, room resets, and ensuring facilities are presentable.
• Assist with classroom and office moves, furniture relocation, and room reconfigurations as needed.
• Operate cleaning equipment and tools safely, including vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and other custodial equipment.
• Interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff, parents, visitors, and vendors.
• Assist with special projects during school breaks, holidays, and summer months, including but not limited to: painting, power washing, moving furniture, exterior building cleaning, and other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
• Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs throughout the workday.
• Lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Push and pull carts, cleaning equipment, tables, and furniture.
• Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, or day porter experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safe chemical handling practices.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to understand work orders, safety procedures, and communicate with supervisors, staff, and vendors.
• Basic computer and mobile device skills, including the ability to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive, update, submit, and close work orders.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record if operating company vehicles is required.
Required Certifications and Clearances
• Successfully pass a California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Live Scan background check as required for work on school campuses.
• Successfully complete and maintain a current Tuberculosis (TB) clearance in accordance with California school district requirements.
We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Technician who has broad experience across multiple trades and enjoys solving a variety of facility maintenance challenges. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded "jack-of-all-trades" with knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general building repairs. This role requires someone who can work independently, prioritize tasks, and take pride in maintaining safe, clean, and well-functioning facilities for our clients.
Reporting to the Director of Facilities and overseen by the Lead Maintenance Tech, the Maintenance Tech 2 is a semi-skilled worker class in the series. The Maintenance Tech 2 is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of client facilities, buildings, and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform routine maintenance of facilities.
• Some duties may include repairing flooring, drywall, appliances, troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, safety and security systems (lighting, locks, smoke/CO2 alarms, etc.), and HVAC systems; painting (interior and exterior); and cleaning.
• Ability to safely use power tools.
• Conduct all job duties in accordance with company safety protocols.
• Works collaboratively with building administrators and staff to ensure a clean and safe environment for all students and staff.
• General roof cleaning and maintenance
• Mold abatement, fire smoke and water damage clean up.
• Wash exterior surfaces
• Train entry level staff.
