    As a Machine Learning and Generative AI Engineer on our team, you will help lead the development of innovative generative AI products that address the needs of our constituents (students, alumni, faculty, researchers, staff, and the community at large). This key technical leadership role requires hands-on expertise across the full machine learning and AI lifecycle. You will collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and data engineers to operationalize AI models in production, drive core platform capabilities, and apply these in a variety of domains. You will also develop and deploy novel approaches to optimize existing AI systems and maximize their business value.

     

    You will play a central role in building and scaling our core application platform — the hub within HBS where application developers can share data and code. As custodians of this platform, we will apply best practices and leverage existing repositories to accelerate the path from prototype for GenAI applications and unlock economies of scale. You will be highly influential in advancing our GenAI capabilities, guiding the teams towards impactful and ethical AI. We seek an expert eager to grow and disseminate GenAI expertise across the organization.
     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Architect, build, maintain, and improve a suite of GenAI applications and their underlying systems.Automate machine learning pipelines, monitor performance and costs, and optimize models by using techniques such as LoRA/QLoRA and other parameter-efficient methods.Establish reusable frameworks to streamline model building, deployment and monitoring. Incorporate comprehensive logging, tracing, and alerting mechanisms.Build guardrails, compliance rules, and oversight workflows into the GenAI application platform, including approval chains for model updates and staged rollouts for production releases.Develop templates, guides, and sandbox environments to support onboarding of new contributors and experimentation with emerging techniquesEnsure user-facing applications built on the GenAI application platform are safe and reliable, enforcing rigorous validation and testing before publishing, and implement a clear peer review process.Apply an entrepreneurial mindset to identify opportunities to optimize business processes, improve user experiences, and prototype solutions that demonstrate value.Work closely with data scientists and analysts to develop and deploy new product features across web and mobile applications.Contribute to and promote sound software engineering practices across the team.Mentor and educate team members to adopt best practices in writing and maintaining production-grade machine learning code.Actively contribute to and leverage community best practices and open-source resources.Monitor, debug, and resolve production issues in a timely manner. Partner with project managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.Collaborate with Technical Product Managers to track algorithmic performance KPIs and prioritize performance improvements based on effort and impact.Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents.Complete other responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience


    Additional Qualifications and Skills:

    Bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or an equivalent technical discipline desiredMinimum of two to three years’ software development experience with Python and SQL.Minimum of two to three years of experience building and deploying NLP and deep learning model pipelines into a cloud environment.Minimum two to three years of experience using PyTorch or Tensorflow, including optimizing code for GPU clustersExperience building advanced GenAI workflows such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), model chaining, dynamic prompting, and parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT/SFT) using LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks.Experience establishing model guardrails and developing bias detection and mitigation techniques for AI applications.Experience with embedding models and tuning vector databases (e.g., Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate) to improve semantic search and retrieval performance.Solid understanding of the theoretical foundations of LLMs, including Transformer architectures and self-attention mechanisms.Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, big data tools (Spark, Kafka), Linux environments, and at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect, or Step Functions).Strong software engineering fundamentals: unit testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and design documentation.

    Job Summary:

    The Director of Corporate Alliances plays a central role in advancing the mission of the HBS AI Institute by serving as the primary relationship lead for a portfolio of corporate and organizational partners. This role is responsible for ensuring that partner organizations derive meaningful, sustained value from their engagement with the Institute, while also informing and enriching the Institute’s research agenda through close collaboration with faculty and practice.

    Operating within a leading academic environment, the Director, reporting to Principal Director, Alliances at HBSAI, works at the intersection of academia and industry, partnering closely with faculty, researchers, and administrative teams to translate cutting-edge research into actionable insights. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, facilitating high-impact engagements that reflect the rigor, independence, and mission of a university-based research institute. The role combines elements of strategic partnership development, academic engagement, and program delivery, with a focus on long-term relationship stewardship, intellectual exchange, and measurable impact.


    Job-Specific Responsibilities:

    Job Description

    The HBS AI Institute at Harvard is accepting applications for an Instructional Designer. The HBS AI Institute helps industry leaders reimagine the potential of AI in business and society through cutting-edge research and experiential learning.

    The Instructional Designer operates as the connector among faculty, subject matter experts, facilitators, and go-to-market teams. The role manages the end-to-end lifecycle of experiential learning asset creation for executive education and workshops, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and delivery ready. The position combines instructional design, digital content production, and program delivery support, with extensive use and adoption of AI tools to accelerate production and continuous improvement.

    Job-Specific Responsibilities:

    Content Conversion and Production

    Work with cross-functional team members and AI tools to rapidly convert program materials into client-ready and market-facing assets. Ensure quality, coherence, and consistency across all learning materials through version control, QA processes, and release documentation.

    Experiential Learning Asset Development

    Partner with faculty and subject matter experts to refresh and maintain facilitation materials, exercises, and learning assets for executive and facilitator-led workshops. Translate complex academic research into accessible, participant-centered formats including facilitation decks, toolkits, videos, blog posts, infographics, and other digital content.

    Program Delivery and Continuous Improvement

    Job Description

    Harvard Business School seeks multiple Research Associate (RA) to support faculty members on writing / content focused work. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of business topics and prior writing experience. 

    The Research Associate (RA) position reports directly to faculty supervisors and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. Ideal RA candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.  

    Primary duties:

    Work under the general direction of HBS faculty on topics central to HBS research agenda.  Provide subject-area knowledge, analysis and interpretation to faculty member. Identify and explore a wide-range of questions related to faculty’s research agenda.Write cases, case supplements, project reports, and drafts for a book project from start to finish creating original writing based on subject-area expertise, research, and interviews, and write articles for applicable business audiences such as Harvard Business Review.Under general direction of faculty member, must be able to take complex research ideas, concepts, and methodologies and apply them to new projects and situations. Must be able to structure assignments and keep faculty member informed as necessary, using own judgment.Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents.Responsible for other duties as assigned.Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree with a GPA above 3.5 is required.Prior experience supporting short form writing and website project management preferred.

    Evidence of prior high-quality, original academic writing, and background in analysis and interpretation of relevant data, research, news, and literature is helpful. Ability to read academic, subject-specific information and write a reasoned and thoughtful analysis, as well as produce a creative interpretation, is a must.The candidate must have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, strong organization skills, and absolute commitment to task completion. Must be able to balance multiple tasks and shifting priorities under tight deadlines at an accelerated pace when necessary.     Appointment End Date: June 30, 2027.
