    JOB SUMMARY

    The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) reports directly to the Dental Director and/or Dental Office Manager and is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to the dental team before, during, and after the delivery of dental services. This role assists providers in delivering high-quality patient care, ensures compliance with applicable dental regulations and infection control standards, supports patient education, and contributes to efficient dental clinic operations.

    Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)

    Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment for patient care.Welcome, prepare, seat, and assist patients throughout dental procedures.Assist dentists during examinations and procedures by providing chairside support, instrument transfer, suctioning, and patient management.Sterilize, disinfect, and maintain dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control standards.Expose and process dental radiographs in compliance with state regulations.Educate patients regarding oral hygiene, plaque control, preventive care, and post-operative instructions.Maintain adequate inventory of dental supplies and notify leadership of replenishment needs.Participate in quality improvement, compliance, safety, and infection prevention activities.Promote patient satisfaction and provide exceptional customer service to patients and families.Cross-train and assist with front office functions, including patient check-in, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and related administrative duties as needed.Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic dental record.

    Expanded Duties Within California RDA Scope of Practice

    Perform mouth-mirror inspections of the oral cavity, including charting obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth.Apply and activate bleaching agents using approved non-laser light-curing devices.Utilize automated caries detection devices and record findings prior to placement of pit and fissure sealants.Obtain intraoral images for computer-aided design (CAD) procedures.Perform pulp vitality testing and record findings.Place bases, liners, etchants, and bonding agents for restorative procedures as permitted by law.Chemically prepare teeth for bonding procedures.Place, adjust, and finish direct provisional restorations.Size stainless steel crowns, temporary crowns, and orthodontic bands.Fabricate temporary crowns intra-orally.Remove excess cement from supragingival tooth surfaces during orthodontic treatment using approved methods.Apply pit and fissure sealants in accordance with California regulations.Perform all duties within the scope of practice authorized by the California Dental Practice Act and Dental Board of California regulations.Perform other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Education, Experience, and/or Training

    High School Diploma or equivalent required.Current and active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license issued by the Dental Board of California.Successful completion of Board-approved coursework in Radiation Safety.Successful completion of Board-approved courses in Infection Control and the California Dental Practice Act.Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint clearance, if required.Knowledge of dental terminology, dental procedures, instruments, and equipment.Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations while maintaining professionalism, dignity, and respect.

    Preferred Education, Experience, and/or Training

    Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant.Experience working in a community clinic, public health setting, or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).Experience with electronic dental records.Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish preferred).

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Enrollment Coordinator will assist patients to enroll and maintain enrollment into health Insurance and subsidy programs and to anchor patients to Harbor Community Health Centers (HarborCHC). The Enrollment Coordinator is expected to adhere to all of HarborCHC's standards and values and to carry out all duties and responsibilities according to the organization's policies and procedures.

    Complete a comprehensive benefits and qualified health insurance assessment for each client to determine eligibility in various health programs and/or public benefits such as Covered CA, Medi­ cal, Medicare and HarborCHC's Sliding Fee Discount Program (SFS).Promote HarborCHC services to community members in need of a medical home.Help patients and community member’s complete and submit applications for programs and benefits for which they qualify.Submit enrollment applications and all related information into designated program platforms such as Covered CA and/or Benefits Cal.Conduct timely follow ups to verify the status of enrollment applications and clients experiencing enrollment issues.Assist patients and community members to select a health plan based on their needs via Health Care Options, or other applicable program platforms.Contribute to the retention of existing patients by providing insurance renewal services to avoid gaps in coverage continue and to maintain HarborCHC as their assigned medical home.Ensure timely, accurate, and detailed documentation in HarborCHC's EHR, eClinicalWorks (ECW), for all enrollment assistance provided to each individual and/or familiesMaintain program participant files including enrollment documents, records of services accessed, and enrollment verification. Input all participant enrollment information into designated spreadsheet on a daily basis for tracking purposes.Work with other staff to make sure that patients and community members who received enrollment assistance are assigned to HarborCHC and attend initial IHA appointments.Adhere to all policies and requirements as set forth by Medi-Cal, Covered CA, LA County and other applicable programs.Provide a monthly enrollment assistance report to Supervisor. Report includes all client/patient appointments that received assistance, type of assistance provided, progress made, and an overall quantitative measurement of enrollment numbers reached to assess productivity.Perform other duties as assigned to support HarborCHC's Mission and Values.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required education, experience and/or training: Current California Dental and DEA licenses. Demonstrated skill in diagnosing dental disease from the clinical exam and radiographic analysis. Demonstrated skill in developing an appropriate treatment plan. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in performing restorative procedures safely under local anesthetic and nitrous oxide sedation.Demonstrated skill in performing extractions.Demonstrated skill in performing emergency palliative treatment including pulpotomies and pulpectomies. Demonstrated skill in providing treatment of periodontal disease including but not limited to scaling and root planing. Bilingual verbal skills in English and Spanish(preferred).Proficiency in molar endodontic therapy and surgical extractions, preferred. Ability to work with infectious disease patients.Ability to accurately and efficiently enter patient data via Electronic Dental Record (EDR) and lock notes in a timely manner.Ability to interact effectively with people of various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to deal with patient complaints with tact and diplomacy. Ability to work with volunteers, dental students. Comply with HIPAA and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures as they apply to the job. Demonstrate full scope of Dentistry, including experience with adult and pediatric patients, ages 0-21. Ability to work late hours and/or weekends.

    Key Competencies:

    Experience: 5+ years of hands-on dentistry experience, with a proven ability to manage complex dental procedures independently, including oral surgery, molar endodontics, and advanced restorative treatments.FQHC Experience: Work experience in a high volume Community Health Center (CHC) or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is strongly preferred.Manage Patient Load: Efficiently manage a daily patient load of at least 18-20 patients, ensuring quality care and high patient satisfaction in a timely manner. This number may change based on department goals.Leadership and Staff Supervision: Ability to take a leadership role in supervising, mentoring, and training dental staff, ensuring compliance with clinical protocols and efficient practice operations. Supervisory experience with dental assistants and hygienists, including in the absence of the Dental Director.Practice Promotion: Understand the practice mission and long-term business goals.
