    HWC Engineering is currently seeking an energetic, adaptable, and solution-oriented person who will be able to take and follow instructions but also be able to think independently, as a Survey Crew Chief. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and remotely and lead a field crew performing boundary, topography, ALTA, right of way, and construction surveys for public and private clients on large energy and transportation projects.

    HWC Engineering’s Survey Department works closely with other departments to provide quality deliverables for projects across all our engineering related public and private clients. We offer a full range of survey and geospatial data and mapping services that enable us to collect data faster, safer, and more accurately than ever before.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    Fieldwork Leadership: Lead and oversee a surveying crew in the performance of field surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title, boundary marking, topographic mapping, and other surveying tasks.Data Collection: Operate surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors, to accurately measure and record survey data. Quality Control: Ensure the data collected meets quality and accuracy standards, making necessary adjustments and re-measurements as required.Project Planning: Assist in the planning and scheduling of surveying projects, considering factors like weather conditions, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation. Safety: Enforce safety protocols and best practices in the field to maintain a safe working environment for the crew. Client Interaction: Communicate with clients on-site to address any concerns or questions, fostering positive client relationships. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of survey data, field notes, and equipment maintenance. Crew Training: Provide guidance and training to surveying technicians to improve their skills and ensure consistent data collection practices. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on surveying equipment to ensure its proper functioning.

    WHAT YOU NEED

    Experience with Robotic Total Station and data collection.Experience with RTK GPS.Ability to work alone and with other employees.Valid driver’s license.2+ years of land surveying experience as a crew chief/party chief or 5+ years of experience as an instrument operator

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience with AutoCADUAV license

    Our team is looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious, and skilled CAD Technician to support our Transportation team. The CAD Technician will play a crucial role in supporting our team by utilizing CAD software (MicroStation) to produce accurate and detailed drawings and plans for a variety of transportation and civil projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD drafting and experience working in a civil engineering environment, particularly in transportation design.

    The position would report in-office at our Indianapolis office.     WHAT YOU’LL DO

    Utilize CAD software (e.g., MicroStation including InRoads and OpenRoads) to create detailed drawings, maps, and plans.Collaborate with surveyors and engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness of drawings and plans.Support engineers in completing quantity calculations and takeoffs.Maintain organized records of drawings and project files for future reference and revisions.Adhere to quality control standards on drawings to ensure adherence to company standards and project requirements.Stay updated on CAD software advancements and industry best practices to enhance efficiency and productivity.Communicate regularly with project managers and design engineers.Work on several projects concurrently.

    WHAT YOU NEED

    Minimum 2+ years experience Proficiency in MicroStation InRoads, OpenRoads, Excel, and Word. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is a plus, but not required. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately interpret survey data and specifications.Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with surveyors, engineers, and other team members.Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and meet project deadlines.Knowledge of transportation cad drafting principles and practices is required.

    Uses senior-level technical expertise to consider a broad range of engineering solutions relating to traffic analysis, corridor studies and complex/non-complex traffic modeling.Responsible for discipline-specific planning, work distribution, leadership and adherence to the schedule, and budget on complex or traffic engineering projects.Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.Develops scope of work and level of effort and manages adherence to scope and budget during project delivery process.Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve overall project objectives on complex or unusual engineering projects.Coordinates technical aspects of the project with client and teaming partners.Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work for other disciplines on multi-discipline projects on complex or unusual engineering projectsPerforms other duties as assigned by Traffic Group Manager.

The Civil Engineering Construction Inspector will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating construction projects to ensure they comply with design plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in civil engineering, exceptional attention to detail, and effective communication skills to interact with project stakeholders.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    Conduct comprehensive inspections of civil engineering construction projects, including roadways, bridges, utilities, drainage systems, and other infrastructure components.Serve the project owner as an on-site representative.Maintain a daily report of construction inspection activities.Complete financial administration duties of the contract, including creating, reviewing and/or approving project pay estimates and change orders and assisting the project owner with budget control.Ensure the project is built according to the plans and specifications.Examine finished installations to ensure conformity to standards.Perform and/or observe asphalt, soils, concrete and other material testing per INDOT standards.Assist with the coordination of utility relocation efforts.Serve as the liaison between the contractor and design firm.Serve as the liaison between the project owner and the general public by attending or leading public meetings, addressing public concerns and/or assisting with travel detour routes and closure notices.Host routine progress coordination and scheduling meetings as needed.

    WHAT YOU NEED

    Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering or a high school diploma with related work experience in transportation inspection.Five (5) years of relevant, progressive experience in the civil engineering or construction management industry for supervisor role; Two (2) years of relevant experience in the civil engineering or construction management industry for inspector role.Successful completion or actively seeking completion of the six INDOT Certified Technician exams.Ability to travel up to 100 miles per day.Strong written and oral communication skills.Strong ability to work with a team.

    PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

    Site Manager Proficiency CertificationUp to date INDOT Independent Assurance written and field proficiencies.INDOT Level I Stormwater CertificationPrevious experience working on INDOT LPA projects.
