    The Golf Maintenance Technician is essential for ensuring the optimal condition and playability of the golf course at Woodland Mound, The Vineyard Golf Course. This role involves a combination of routine maintenance, landscaping, and equipment operation to uphold the aesthetic and functional standards of the course. The technician will work closely with the grounds crew to implement agronomic practices that promote healthy turf and enhance the overall golfing experience. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality are crucial, as the technician will be responsible for maintaining greens, fairways, and bunkers. Ultimately, the goal is to create a welcoming and well-maintained environment for golfers and visitors alike.

    This position requires weekends, holiday, early morning, and evening work.

    Responsibilities:

    Perform daily maintenance tasks including mowing, aerating, and fertilizing greens and fairways.Inspect and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution across the course.Assist in the preparation of the course for tournaments and special events.Monitor and manage pest control measures to protect the turf and landscaping.Collaborate with the grounds crew to implement seasonal maintenance plans and improvements.Resolves routine problems and ensures work is completed as directed and in conformance with quality standardsPerforms various grounds maintenance tasks at one or more golf courses. Applies fertilizer, pesticides and aquacides. Clears brush and small trees. Mows right of way, rough areas, and golf course playing surfaces. Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, and grass seed. Water and fertilize plants, prunes trees and shrubs, weeds flower beds and performs other gardening tasks as directed. May assist with snow removal from roadways, parking areas and walkways. Performs minor mechanical repairs and performs routine preventive maintenance to small gasoline engines in tractors, mowers, pumps, utility carts, trucks, and other equipment.Adjusts reel and rotary mowers for proper cutting heights and correct quality of cut. Performs annual, or as needed mower repairs and rebuilding work. May participate in annual reel mower grinding and sharpening program.Performs janitorial responsibilities. Performs irrigation and other minor plumbing repairs. Performs minor building and carpentry repairs.Responds to public questions and represents Great Parks in a positive manner at all times.Places a high priority on employee and guest safety. Ensures compliance and adherence to safety procedures, training is completed and documentation is maintained.Purchases supplies and equipment as assigned. Adheres to purchasing card procedures and submits expenditures for supervisor approval. Logs work performed, problems encountered, parts used and other required information.Employee regularly lifts or exerts force on items up to 25 pounds, with occasional weights in excess of 50 pounds.Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent.Previous experience in landscape maintenance or golf course management.Basic knowledge of turf management practices and equipment operation.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Certification in turf management or a related field.Experience with irrigation systems and pest management.Ability to operate specialized golf course maintenance equipment.Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

    A successful Part Time Conservation and Parks Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled labor in developed and natural park areas. This position is an excellent opportunity to work outdoors and gain conservation skills. The C&P tech assists in maintenance of park facilities, grounds, landscape beds, habitat, trails and equipment. Employee proceeds alone or with coworkers on regular duties, with guidance from supervisor. Refers unusual or difficult problems or situations to immediate supervisor. Required work on weekends, holidays, evenings and work outside of normal schedule.

    Responsibilities:

    Performs janitorial duties in all areas. Picks up litter, sweeps and mops floors, empties wastebaskets, and cleans restroom facilities. Assists with removal of invasive and nuisance plants from natural areas. Mows and bush-hogs grass and brush land areas. Collects, processes and plants native plants and seeds. Assists in collecting data on park flora and fauna, and conducting wildlife surveys. Performs various manual labor tasks to construct and maintain Great Parks’ trails, inspects trail conditions. Collects information to advise manager or functional supervisor and implements based on need. Assists in the executing grounds and horticulture duties including mowing, planting, mulching and maintaining plants, flowers, shrubs and trees, prune trees and shrubs, weeds landscape beds, and removes leaf debris. Assists with minor repairs to buildings, facilities and roadways, including minor plumbing repairs, rough carpentry, masonry, painting, replacing signs, repairing roadways and trails by patching pot holes, line striping, and other maintenance practices. Assists with minor mechanical repairs and performs routine preventive maintenance to small gasoline engines in tractors, mowers, pumps, trucksters, trucks, and other equipment. Changes oil, lubricates moving parts, checks fluid levels, replaces belts, and performs other basic mechanical maintenance responsibilities. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with performance expectations, and within Great Parks’ policy and procedure. Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and punctuality. Works assigned schedule and demonstrates willingness and ability to work outside of regular schedule as required and approved.

    Project Delivery

    Prepares conceptual designs, drawings, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for assigned regional capital improvement projects. Produces creative, practical, and functional designs within budgetary and construction constraints, incorporating sustainable practices and universal design standards where applicable. Develops budget requests based upon project cost estimates.Manages selection and performance of design consultants by preparing and evaluating requests for qualifications, organizing selection committees, negotiating contract amounts and modifications, and executing contracts.Prepares bid packages, facilitates bidding process, and conducts bid openings.Coordinates with contractors and consultants to review plans, align work efforts, resolve issues, and determine necessary adjustments.     Process Development and Improvement

    Develops and manages project management and land acquisition practices, procedures, and tools that promote efficiency, quality, clear communication, and transparency in project delivery.Leads the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of workflows.Monitors implementation of project delivery processes to ensure they are applied consistently across all projects and teams; identifies impediments and recommends solutions.Coordinates training, onboarding, or reference materials to ensure that internal teams and consultants understand and effectively use established project delivery processes.Benchmarks internal practices against industry standards and best practices to identify opportunities for innovation or refinement.Collaborates with other Managers and Directors to ensure integration of design, construction, procurement, and compliance processes.Gathers feedback from internal stakeholders and project partners to inform process improvements and enhance project outcomes.Supports Great Parks’ conservation and regional connectivity goals by overseeing land acquisition for multiple projects and ensuring legal and compliance processes are followed.     Planning Division Leadership

    Provides guidance to PMs regarding ODOT’s regulations and helps ensure all projects are compliant with state and federal standards.Ensures Project Managers have the tools and knowledge necessary to manage the complexities of the project delivery process. Provides resources and training to improve project delivery and compliance.Manages one or more capital projects directly in addition to supporting project managers through process. Maintains familiarity with division processes and systems through hands-on project work.Assists in implementing the Comprehensive Master Plan and the Park and Facility Master Plans.Performs other duties as assigned.

Conducts site walk through, observing safety conditions and potentials hazards, and if necessary, recommends immediate condition or hazard abatement. Reviews safety related documents, on-site training records, and interviews staff or manager, if needed. Prepares inspection and abatement reports, follows up on abatement status, and tracks inspection and abatement status.Demonstrates a proactive approach to safety training and interventions that serve the organization. Coordinates and conducts safety related training. Collaborates with Human Resources division leaders to address safety training needs for both staff and volunteers. Analyzes need for training using data collected from injuries, training matrix, and inspection reports, along with input from Management and Safety point people. Researches applicable standards for training content, then creates or purchases training materials and equipment, or contracts outside training. Coordinates with supervisors, administrators and Employee Services to schedule training dates, times and locations. Conducts training and maintains records of trainings. Training topics include, but are not limited to, confined space, distracted driving, emergency preparedness, fall prevention/protection, lockout/tagout, respirators (including fit testing), first aid/CPR.Investigates employee and visitor injuries to determine causal factors and recommends remedial measures. After an injury, reviews incident reports, contacts relevant witnesses to determine nature of accident, and conducts site visits and field interviews. Completes accident investigation report by determining casual factors, recommends abatement measures, and follows up abatement with manager and injured employee.Creates, reviews, and updates safety policies and procedures for staff and volunteers. Reviews current safety policies, researches applicable standards, confers with regulatory agencies if needed, and drafts written policies. Sends new policies to concerned parties and the Safety Steering Team members for input, then finalizes and publishes policies.Collects and analyzes safety and accident data. Collects demographic data, reviews injury and accident frequency reports, and determines injury casual factors. Uses Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System to classify injuries. Inputs data into spreadsheet, posts spreadsheet to intranet and discusses findings with Safety Steering Team and safety committees.Coordinates with state and local agencies on safety initiatives and information sharing.Prepares and monitors Safety and Risk department budget. Manages and monitors all expenses incurred during the year.Oversees and ensures the completion of the annual Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) audit for both staff and volunteers whose positions require driving.Prepares accurate and timely Board monitoring reports Board of Park Commissioners meetings throughout the year; presents the reports and addresses inquiries.Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    Bachelor’s Degree in safety management, occupational safety, or related field required.Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety and risk management or related field required. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including supervisors, employees, volunteers and the general public.Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.Ability to manage department budget and finances.Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.Ability to work cooperatively with others.Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
