A Construction Estimator is responsible for analyzing project requirements and costs to prepare detailed estimates for construction projects. They collaborate with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate cost projections and help guide the cost analysis process. They must be proficient in evaluating materials, labor, and time required to complete a project.Key Responsibilities:Cost Estimation:Review project drawings, specifications, and other project documents to determine the scope of work.Estimate labor, material, and equipment costs, ensuring a complete and accurate cost analysis.Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and identify any potential cost-saving measures.Project Coordination:Work with architects, engineers, and project managers to understand the design, scope, and specific requirements of the project.Collaborate with the project management team to prepare competitive estimates that reflect realistic costs and schedules.Provide input on project timelines, and ensure that estimates align with project schedules.Risk Assessment and Contingency Planning:Assess project risks and uncertainties, recommending contingency plans where needed.Monitor market trends and fluctuations in material costs, labor rates, and other factors that could impact project budgets.Review and Update Estimates:Continuously monitor the progress of ongoing projects, reviewing and revising estimates as needed based on changes in scope, labor rates, or material costs.Maintain a record of previous estimates for future reference and analysis.Cost Control and Budgeting:Assist in managing project budgets, ensuring that costs are kept within allocated limits.Identify potential cost overruns early and provide recommendations to control expenditures.Collaboration with Other Teams:Work closely with procurement teams to ensure that materials are sourced at competitive prices.Maintain communication with contractors and suppliers to ensure the timely availability of materials and resources.Documentation and Reporting:Keep detailed records of estimates, bids, and any changes to project scope or costs.Prepare and submit regular reports to project managers and other stakeholders, updating them on the financial status of the project.Skills & Qualifications:Experience: Typically 3+ years of experience in estimating, construction management, or a related field.Technical Skills:Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or similar).Strong understanding of construction materials, processes, and industry standards.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including contractors, clients, and team members.Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in reviewing plans and documents.Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.Working Conditions:Full-time position, typically in an office environment, with frequent visits to job sites.Additional Information:The ideal candidate should be proactive, well-organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.Knowledge of construction regulations, safety standards, and local building codes is a plus.
